how do you steal from the enemy??[message #134210]

This is probably a dumb question to ask considering I have played all the JA's over the years, but I never realized you could knock an enemy out and "Steal" the weapons from them... is this possible? Is it as simple as knocking them down and using the CTRL button to examine them?

Yes, what i usaly do is crowbar them and then do it. you generaly get a veiw of all their weapons and u can go from there. you may want to hit em twice or they will get up and punch you.

thanks for the quick reply. I'm enjoying the UC mod right now. Its nice to have new things to look forward to in this fantastic game.

I tried this on an enemy that was dying, and nothing happened. I am not assuming that the enemy has to be alive while stealing from them. If I knock them down, then examine them, is a box suppose to pop up with what the enemy is carrying?

ya as far as i can tell they cant be in dying status. Stun nades or just plain beating them to unconsious is the best way. although i think you can run up to a dude thats still active and try and steal but it can fail.

Best with two Mercs.

If the enemy is dying you can have one guy give first aid until he's critical, than steal with the second, then kill with the first aider!

Foolproof method. Use two mercs for best results.

1. Charge enemy and pummel to submission.

2. Merc A steps one step away, then runs back to steal.

3. Merc B pummels or shoots enemy after the wep was stolen.

The only time that this doesn't work is when the enemy puts his gun in his pack and draws a knife or something. If that happens you have to wait till he draws his gun again and re-try.

I usually save before I try and steal a wep to determine if what he has is worth the hassle of trying to steal it. For instance if I find he has an AK-47, reload and headshot him. If you have autosave on, you can often identify a Dragunov or better by the "crack" it makes right before one of your mercs dies Smile

Later in the game, once my team has decent rifles, I rarely bother to steal weapons unless the sound of it identifies it as something really unusual. Or if they drop ammo from highly desirable weps, and I have save prior to wasting them. For instance if they drop 9mm-SP6, it might be worth a reload and try to steal to see what they had ...

Short version: yes. It's that simple. Ctrl-left click with the blinking red hand will make a steal attempt. It's better if you have your hands empty and you must have an open inventory slot or you will drop the gun when you try. I believe I've also noticed a higher success rate with empty hands...

BTW, stealing is one of the only good uses for stun grenades I've found. Lob one in a cluster of enemies, drop them all, run in and steal their guns, beat them to death, shotgun them or cut loose on full auto, then enjoy your new weapons.
