to Realist: Did you try to run x86-jsd-editor on Win 7 x64?

Yes, runs flawlessly. Smile

Other users might benefit from a how to post on installing and running these great tools. I think I could put together one about a standard Windows XP install (without .net or current service packs) but I don't really know anything about the x64 requirements.

Anyone want to do a step by step or should I take a stab at it?

x64 is no different to x86. There shouldn't be any need for different instructions as long as they have the latest .net up to date. 3.5 ships with Win7 so that's a non-issue (and I should have the RTM of Win7 in a couple of days Very Happy ) and getting the older .net isn't exactly hard off the Windows Downloads site. I could always post up the re-distributable versions of .net for peeps if they are having problems...

Some notices about the STI<=>GIF converter.
1. Number in texbox is à delay for one frame in hundredth part of seconds.
Another words, if you input 10 in text box, than you can see 10 frame per second, if you input 5 - 20 frame per second and so on.
2. If you red sti format description in appendix to sti-editor's help or here, you can see what GIF format is more common than STI format.
For example GIF-file can contains local palette for each frame, but STI-file contains only single global palette for all frames.
It is mean, what we can convert any STI-file to GIF correctly, but we can NOT convert any GIF to STI correctly.
Some of the GIF-files cannot be converted to STI correctly.

I am sorry. I corrected my previous post. Notice one must be changed here
http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=222318&page=1#Post222318

There are new JsdEditor's version on ja2.su. New version can be run on x64 platform.
The Czech language was added to localization (thanx to jarni).
The ALT DOWNLOAD link must be changed, set file extention to "7z" instead of "rar".

I've pointed the ALT download to the page, instead of file.

Can't you install a virtual machine with XP for this kind of work?

Shanga, you're a genious. Now why didn't I come to think of that when I've been fighting all these "oops you got windows 7 I'm not going to work" tool issues. Doh!

Anybody know what this is about?

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa9/collector_hawkes/Pipetz_Editor.gif

Currently running JSD Editor 11.06.2009 build on a windows XP machine. This box comes up just about anytime I click on Sti structures or tiles.

....Hold on, now this is weird, it also came up when I tried to close the program with the red X in the corner, so I hit escape, now all seems fine?

Just wondering what hitting escape turned off.

No one? Come across this issue? Or do I have Gremlins on my PC?

I don't know if these tools are still being developed but it would be great to get some documentation or manual for the JSD Editor, I only discovered the other day that I could rotate around the 3D representation of the structure using the cursor keys, would be very useful if the 3D view had a compass, to indicate the objects orientation and the ability to zoom out at times for larger structures. Things can get messy if you have a number of objects that have been rotated or looked around.

Has anyone been able to get the Russian JSD editor working on a windows 7 machine? I recently upgraded, and this is one of the few tools that is causing problems, presumably because of windows 7. A real shame as I find the 3D viewer of JSD blocks really handy when building new tileset items using this program.

Here's the current error that pops up when I attempt to start the .exe.

Thanks, but it looks like that site has the same tools I am already using, the Russian editor which isn't working on windows 7 is the second one, from Pipetz.

I'm not really looking for another editor, was hoping to find a fix for the aforementioned Pipetz editor.

Only thing I can think of is post in the Russian forum, ask them if they have a Win 7 version. Try posting in English (but apologize), or ask someone to translate, maybe don't use Google translate, it aggrevates people and is not widely accepted.

Or install Windows XP in a partition. Really, is there anything good about W7 that makes it worth all the hassle? If so, what?

I've tried contacting one of the programmers direct, just hope they can help as Black Dragon's editor just isn't cutting it these days.

thumbs up
Thanks to Scheinworld and his communications with Realist I've finally got the .net/Pipetz editor working on my windows 7 system.

Turned out to be a 3D graphics card issue, and all I needed was an updated driver for my intel board, which was available as an additional download from Windows update.

Now, let's see how long I can get before breaking some more of my old pals, the JSD's!
