what are the values i would change in order to alter the amount of damage my mercs take? i've extracted all of the config files, but i'm at a loss for what values control damage taken. thank you for any assistance!

Well you can't control damage taken by your mercs alone.
You can however remove armor items from your mercs in main_characters.txt (or decrease the stat on the items themselves in clothings.txt, but that will affect the enemies wearing those as well) or decrease merc strength in main_characters.txt (1str=1hp, buuuuuuuuuut str affects carry weight and melee damage as well).

welcome to the pit, bnb
your question is a little - let's say - unspecific
what is the goal you want to acchieve?
do you want to acchieve it with/without cheating?
#1 if you want them (your mercs but not them baddies) to tolerate more damage they need better armour and/or stats - if you want to make weapons less leathal for all you you need to change weapons stats
#2 quite simply is a god-mode cheating to you?
oops bia-thread - just forget what i said

hmmm...so it would seem there's no way to isolate just the damage taken by MY mercs. if i'm understanding correctly, if i edited the stats on a kevlar vest to take an obscene amount of damage, those values would also apply to anyone wearing a kevlar vest, including enemies.
basically, i'm looking to make the game a bit easier without breaking it. godmode is too much for me. i still want a challenge. the GABBI cheats for JA2 were perfect, i could remove all of my damage if i felt like it (wanting to breeze through an area for whatever reason), but still have those epic battles where i'd lose half my team and 2-3 mercs would barely escape with their lives! sounds like i may be out of luck. any other suggestions?
thanks for the replys and the welcome!

Well, the AI makes the game easy enough as it is, if you gimp it even more, you can have a 5years old breeze through it. Most of the people are asking for ways to make it more difficult, you should give it a spin without any cheats first and see how that works.
However, if that's too much for you, you can edit the strength of your mercs in main_characters.txt. Set it to 2-300, it will be 4-5 time more hp than usually.

sounds good! i just remember getting frustrated to the point of quitting when i ran into the elites in JA2. now that i'm older, i don't think i'm going to have that kind of tolerance anymore, but i'll take your word for it and give it a shot. thanks again!
