Is there a limit to sector inventories? I've been using Cambria City to stockpile my loot, which was building up because traders did not have enough money to buy them. But when an enemy squad invaded, and a couple of them were killed by my mercs, the game was freeze. This freeze is reproducible, even when I go back to a previous save game. I am wondering if the items dropped by the enemy soldier is causing the map to hit its inventory limit.

Ok, I just tested by editing the amount of money for the Cambria barn trader and sold a ton of stuff. That fixed the freeze. But now I am so rich the game is utterly imbalanced. This sucks. I really wish we could edit the resale value of items and reduce them to less than one half....

Are you playing a mod?
Anyway, storing (at least some) of your stuff in the hospital sector seems advisable as this sector is hardly never ever being attacked (hence the freeze you reported won't happen there).
Also selling some stuff in San Mona might be a good idea as the traders there have lots of money.

I haven't cleared San Mona yet. But Cambria is actually the most ideal spot for stock piling because of it's central location on the map (easier to haul loot to and from other locations) and the fact that until you start moving in on Meduna, almost every single enemy patrol will move through that route, which means I will usually have at least a couple of mercs there to defend it, who can also sell off the loot to the barn trader everyday (rather than having to haul loot all over the map trying to sell them off). I don't remember if Cambria had a trader in JA2 but I also used it as my depot back then.

But yeah, I am using the 'Combat Evolved' version of the 'Drop all loot' mod. I don't think it's working right....sometimes enemies will drop two guns instead of just one. I am looking at the mod edits to main_characters.txt and I don't understand why it's doing that....Anyways, I had -a lot- of stuff as a result. Maybe like 20+ tabs worth of items.

It annoys me that in the default game, you'd kill a enemy sniper and find nothing but a crappy pistol on his body instead. The 'Drop all loot' mod remedies that, but the problem is that you start to stockpile a lot more loot than in the default game, and it's more than the traders can handle. I just wish we could reduce the resale price of loot to lower than what it is now. This way we can continue to liquidate our loot without having to increase the amount of money for traders (which really imbalances the game).

Ah, a 'drop all' mod explains how you can have too much stuff without even going to San Mona.

In vanilla you are supposed to hand armor and guns over to militia and earn money by selling diamonds, jewels and from quests etc.

Have you ever considered to not sell everything to traders but destroy the most useless crap?
I mean, you are bothered by having too much gear as well as by earning too much money from trading. Solution: Get rid of some stuff without getting money for it ...
E.g. just eat all the food even if you do not actually need to recover some stamina. Empty some clips in the wilderness in order to get rid of surplus ammo and damage the gun so that you won't get much money for it. Or just destroy item permannently by dropping it on strategic map (i.e not droping item into sector inventory but using the "drop" slot in char's inventory).

I've gone ahead and edited the 'drop all loot' mod so armour and clothing will no longer drop. This seems to have brought the economy back in balance. While I am at it, I should probably reduce the income for maps without mines. I want my mercs to 'live off the land' for the early part of the campaign, just like in JA2. I just don't understand how the developers could butcher the economic mechanics in this game so badly when they had a perfectly fine working template from JA2.

Incidentally, I still don't know how to destroy items. Can you post a screenshot? The 'drop item' button I see in the merc inventory screen drops items into the sector inventory and does not destroy them.

On the strategical map it was supposed to delete the item (as described in the manual). But very well possible that they screwed that function along with patching the sector inventory ... :whoknows:
