Mausi proudly presents "Ron's Faces mod" revival
In 2006 Ron created a Faces mod to replace most of the good ol' mercs and IMPs we already knew so well. Exchanging many mercs, the game got some new and different flair.
Marlboro Man later rearranged several pictures, to make them fit better to the mercs.
I merely finished what they started with adding some missing IMP pictures, changing/rearranging some mercs and updating the "prof.dat" - nowadays called MercProfiles.xml.
Please note that characters from different Jagged Alliance games (like Gaston or Kelly) which were added to JA2v113 still have their original faces from these games
Installation
1) Jagged Alliance 2
2) Jagged Alliance v1.13, revision 6023 or newer
3) if wanted, an items mod (see next chapter "FAQ")
4) Ron's Faces mod
Download link: download from Mediafire
Make backup copies of the folders "Faces" and "IMPfaces", as well as a copy of the files "MercProfiles.xml IMPPortraits.xml RPCFacesSmall.xml" from Tabledata.
All can be found in ~Jagged Alliance 2 root folder\Data-1.13\
Unzip "Faces" and "IMPfaces" to ~Jagged Alliance 2 root folder\Data-1.13\
Unzip the *xml files to ~Jagged Alliance 2 root folder\Data-1.13\Tabledata
If you are using an items mod, it is adviced to overwrite the explained folders and *xml files in ~Jagged Alliance 2 root folder\Data-MODNAME and Data-MODNAME\Tabledata
FAQ
JA2 compatibility
Any JA2 v1.13 revision from 6023 and newer should be compatible.
If some mercs are missing in A.I.M. they might be found in M.E.R.C. or are really not ingame.
Ron's Faces mod will run properly.
Mod compatibility
Any plain items mod should be compatible, as long as it
- is build around JA2 v1.13 revision 6023 or newer
- changes only items and leave RPCs untouched (for example Miguel, Joey)
If the items mod changes RPCs, there is a possibility that you get grafical glitches when talking to someone.
Item kits from mercs are stored in MercStartingGear.xml, not in MercProfiles.xml, so don't worry that you get "wrong" kit selections.
For example "Arulco Folding Stock" and "Instruments of Violence" should be fully compatible, as they change no characters.[/i]</font>
Camouflage faces
Adviced to turn off in the JA2options.ini (ctrl+f camo - first search result should take you there).
The faces used were made a long time ago. You may activate camo faces, but most likely won't see any effect.
Face items
Adviced to use the ingame setting "face icons" instead (found in Options, page 2).
Similar to camo faces above, you may use the setting "face items", but most likely won't see any effect.
Ira/Miguel/RPCs
There is still the issue of glitchy quest talk (for example when you meet with the Rebels at game start, the large portraits). I don't know yet where the problem is.
Hopefully fixed in a future release.
Gregory "Spooky" Block
A character from M.E.R.C., has no item kits in older v1.13 revisions.

ParkanI know that Ron's faces mod had only big and medium *sti files.Do you plan also add small faces *sti to this?If yes,it will be very cool.=)
Yes, i will add small *sti
Maybe not for all characters, but surely to all recruitables, maybe also some civilians and terrorists. So that players can rearrange the faces to their liking
I just a bit hard to find enough files (that i like ) for all characters. We'll see, i guess until next weekend there will be several updates coming.
ParkanIf using mercprofiles on unstable build,we can lost new added mercs from DG.Or it will be compatible with unstable builds and mods?
DG mercs are fully compatible
If i understand correctly: DG mercs are included in the *exe = unstable build itself. At least i couldn't find their *sti files in the faces folder, but they are still in game.
I used unstable 6221 to create the Faces mod and have mercs from WF, UB and DG ingame (maybe other JA2 games, i'm not sure which mercs were added from what game :whoknows: ).
And as i said: only "vanilla" JA2 characters and IMPs were changed. So you have Henning, Stogie, Spam and others as they looked in their games

I was just about to make a zip file for upload when i realized that i made several faults with eye+mouth coordinates :uhh:
I will correct and upload the mod tomorrow :crossed:

Nice initiative! I also started on creating the small STIs once.. Even made some adjustments like giving Blade a full set of teeth and stuff like that... Must be about 5 years ago! I'll check if I can still find something of that...

Can't find Blade with teeth (I had a crash once), but I found the Hulk without the black in his beard and some other mercs... I also have most 33 faces and 66 faces, I think. If you're interested I'll post them here. Can't remember if I shrunk them or somebody else...

can someone upload a version that works with the current 1.13 (8560)? i really like the faces added, its like a whole new game just by this difference.
Arnie = Steroid; is freaking hilarious.
tried to install but all voice seems to default to barry. tried to open up the xml to see what can be done, seems its the usVoice thingy missing, but then the sti filesnames and location are both different in the mod than those found in the 1.13 so i am not sure how to move the face file around to suit the 1.13.
