Not to be nasty or anything but the prize really sucks you know? Come on, I don't want it but I'm sure you could offer some nicer things for fans - you are asking them to do some of your work for you here.
Edit: Without adding to your costs, you could offer, for example, a free alpha slot to winner if they're on a digital tier, or a signed copy of the box if they're on a physical tier... something a bit creative to show a bit of appreciation

Actually I didn't look at it as "asking the fans to do some of our work"
I thought, We're giving the fans an opportunity to influence the game and get some of their creative content in the game.
If I was a fan of a game and they gave me this option I would be happy to at least have the choice to be part of the game.
You may be right that we could have spiced up the prize a bit more, I thought getting your own content in the game would be enough...guess not.
Will of course take in the feedback we get and use it to make upcoming competitions/votes ect. better and maybe revise what we let the fans influence.

1. Most of the people here already signed up for KS and have to ready up their lines for enemies/mercs when you send out the final pledge poll.
2. We went through the one-liner competition already, that one had prizes, people probably expect a similar competition.
3. It's kinda hard to write dialogue between fictitious characters without a plot. We heard there are changes to the background already, so...
I think a better idea would be to have a more specific competition. And give the "players" a bit of meat on it. Like:
"Ivan meets an old Red Army major in an abandoned base. Major is a nutcase, thinks he's invaded and conquered USA. Write a 5 lines dialogue".
Or something less political, but WITH a story background. We need to get the "feel" of the main story, otherwise 99% of the content would be waste of ink and inspiration. I wouldn't mind writing dialogues and I am pretty sure I could even come up with something a bit funny, but I need to know the setup before I start.
When I make my own mods I first sketch out the main background story (location). Then I sketch the AIM secondary plot (misison trigger). And then I sketch the merc bios placing them in the new setup.
Only after these three essential pillars I start to play around with dialogue because now I have a context to fit it in.
