Haven't been around the Bear's Pit for a while, but I stumbled (quite literally)across Flashback a week or so ago. Can somebody suggest the optimal settings for my machine?

I run off a corporate grade laptop, a Lenovo T420, with 8GB of RAM and an Intel i5 quad core processor, but the graphics chip is an Intel HD Graphics 3000. It does support 1360 X 768 mode on the LCD but the performance is nowhere near that of a dedicated graphics card like you would find in a desktop machine. I suspect that is the issue. I can have a merc shoot at a target and it will be two or three seconds after the mouse click before I hear the shot, and more time before I see if the enemy has been hit or not. The enemy turns similarly take forever to complete, especially if there are 4-6 bad guys remaining. I have managed to take the entire NE island and have captured the first mine on the main island, but this is more tedious than fun at times.

What tweaks will have the most effect on my game? Is it the screen resolution or the graphics quality that sucks the most resources. I tried downgrading the screen resolution but then I couldn't read the information panels very well. I only have the built-in LCD panel on the laptop, so no external monitor. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It is not JA2, but I like it just the same! I miss some of the veterans like Gus, Scope, and, of course, Kick-Ass Kelly. At least we have Ivan and Fidel.

Hehe, that happened automatically with the forum migration because lots of messages were lost or do not count for the message counter anymore. I lost ~400 messages. Your counter must have crossed the border to the next rank.

Yea, looks like the old post count got hyper-inflated with the years. I lost 3k on my post count happy

Speaking of playing JA:F on a laptop, it's tricky. Unity3d engine is't the peak of optimization. I think your best bet is to disable all special effects and that's about it.

Thanks for the replies. I never was a big poster, but at one point somebody special badged me as AIM Legend because, well, Leo Kelly is a legend! Glad that somebody retired Tex though, in one of the JA2 games he was holding a huge amount of money for the team. Little bastard ran off with it all to buy a ranch. Never used him again.

I suspect you are right about the Unity player. This is a great laptop for work purposes, but gaming is tricky. Many flash games will overheat the unit in an instant regardless of the last time I cleaned the fan and applied fresh Artic Silver between the chip and the heat sink. At least my CPU has a heat sink, the GPU does not.

GPUs used for laptops are on the lowest end of the GPU food chain. You cannot compare an integrated chip the size of thumbnail with a powerhouse like AMD R9 that's 20cm long and almost as heavy as a notebook...
