Hello,

I found at least twenty quotes from Ivan (in Deadly games and Jagged Alliance 2), so I created screenshots and I would need help translating them into English.

Can an expert in Ivan's native language help me, please?

Check these links:

Also you will more likely get help with translation if you actually post those screenshots.

Thank you for your answer, I knew for a long time and I already read the two links, and of course I knew the existence of the quotes already translated on the wikia, those that I propose are neither on the forum or on the wikia.

For the screenshots, I wanted to make sure someone spoke Russian before posting them

And here they are and thanks in advance for any help.

It may reduce the effort (and increase the chance to find a willing translator)
if the messages are condensed in one .txt file.
I.e. open \data\mercEDT.slf with e.g. slfExplorer to extract 007.edt (the text file for Ivan's speech)
on a computer which supports russuian language and does not scramble cyrillic fonts to "something".

@townltu: The problem is it doesn't work.

In sfl explore, when I open the file using the icon at the top left (folder icon with arrow) the file is not displayed/not recognized, and I get a message
error: "none of the items match your search".

@Buzmali: Thank you very much.

@thedkm
open .slf file with slfExplore, in right window navigate to desired folder where you want to place the files from the slf archive.
Note slfExplore allows to create new folder, you may rename it to your preference with r-click on the new folders name.
Now go to left window and select one or more files files you desire by using shift or ctrl & arrow keys or click
then either drag the selected files from the left into desired folder on the right,
or hit [ctrl]+[E], respectively select menuitem "Slf" and 1st option "markierte Dateien extrahieren".

Warning! The 2nd option under menuitem "Slf" named "ausgewaehlte Dateien importieren"
and the related shortcut [ctrl]+[I] will import any file(s) selected in the right window
to the .slf archive opened in the left one, overwriting existing file(s) of same name in the process!

Thank for the answer, but The problem is "slf" files contains only audio and I only want to open "edt" files for the Russian subtitles, and SLF explore only sems to recognize "slf" files, so I'm a bit lost. :/

Apparently, "JA2 EDT" can open *edt files but it contails only english subtitle. --'

sorry for incomplete explation, i will try again although it seems all the qoutes were translated:

Yes the file(s) you extracted from the .slf archive must be opened with appropriate program,
good option for .edt files is commieEdt editor, as it allows to copy/paste multiple text strings, find a download link in this thread

If I extract Ivan's .edt file (aka 007.edt) from file mercEdt.slf with program slfExplore,
now open oo7.edt with commie Edt editor, mark all text, hit ctrl+c to copy and then paste it to notepad, i get this:
note this was done on genuine english win xp which was adapted to german,
output for other languages may look different, but bits&bytes in notepad file are identical

The unreadable stuff should transform to cyrillic text on a machine which supports russian language and cyrillic fonts.

commieEdt editor does not display cyrillic fonts even on machine that supports it. EdtMegaEditor does.

Do you still need help translating?

1st my apologies @thedkm for hijacking your thread, the topic simply fits too good;)

For the conversion of Ivans speech set to use it in a Wizardry 8 mod,
I need the parts of Ivan's quotes (from the english version!) that are written in Cyrillic fonts transformed to western fonts,
but my machine does not support to get clear text from the edt, respectively something the translator interprets as text,
and the "Ivan translation" related messages i found on more than this board
focus on translations of his quotes, not the "translation" from Cyrillic to Western fonts.

I guess the process is pretty straight forward if you have an english JA2 on a russian language compatible machine, as far as I can see its:
open 007.edt (find it in data\mercedt.slf) with EdtMegaEditor (find a link on Kermi's ftp site)
and copy all text from the .edt into google translator, set to translate from russian into a western language.
The translator will automatically add the russian text in dark grey western fonts right below the text you pasted as Cyrillic fonts.
Please copy that text written in dark grey western fonts and post it here, or a link to preferably a plain .txt file.

Unfortunately I can not offer a material compensation for that, only proper mentioning in the mods credit section.

I think you should be able to do it on any computer, you just need to use MegaEdtEditor (by Bugmonster) and correctly set encoding when opening/saving as txt file.

@sevenfm
Thanks a lot for both, text and hint.
I take the text, its a good opportunity to get your name into the credit section of something not JA2 ;)

It worked also here now, as you said,
dont know what i did wrong some time ago, probably not the unicode encoding,
thats known since long, notepad even warns to save as ansi.
