I found a bunch of sti-graphics in older JA2-mods which I partly would like to use for my project. For some of them I think I have figured out who made them, but others are used in several mods and so I end up not knowing who to ask. What is common sense about this stuff here? Since I've done a few small things myself while map-editing I sure know that this can by a lot of work. And since I don't wanna be an asshole I rather ask for permissions. But what am I gonna do if I don't know who to ask? How is this handled by others?

How to get: latest 1.13, 7609 and more | 7609 SCI (eng) | Compiling+SVN

I need more details. (Didi Hallervorden)

You might find clues in the credits text, if they made their own for the mod. Alternatively maybe contact the head of development on the mod you are using sti's from. Though if they are old that might be easier said than done. A lot of modders have also come and gone, so it might be hard to even contact them.

I personally don't like others using some of my original work, at least without contacting me, as I'd like to leave some elements unique to a mod. But I do understand in helpful sharing in the community, and have usually also asked before using someone else's work and crediting them accordingly.

Other helpful people on here familiar with older mods may also be able to point you in the right direction on who did what, and a number of sti's often are free to use a lot of the time.

Thanks for the hints. I don't think I've used something especially unique, most are used by several mods and quite few of them I took as a base only and changed them in looks.
I now have to look up which sti I used from which mod and then contact the people involved.
I guess I have to watch quite a few credits and end up looking through a lot of tilesets (I realy should have noted, but...)
Afterwards I can show up again with some more specific questions.

I think when Schein' couldn't find a particular modder he just credited the mod itself. So in Vengeance: Reloaded for example lists a number of mods like 'Bloody Grounds' in the credits.
