... In the hazy cordite clouded aftermath of the campaign to free Arulco, law and order was not restored quick enough, giving many of the war criminals supporting the Queen's regime opportunity to escape the militia forces of Miguel Cordona and regroup.
Cordona`s regime was supposed to be democratic, but this resulted in widespread opposition, as the threat of all too common corruption made it impossible for the people to trust anybody. When Cordona wanted to stop newly acquired oil reserves on the west coast from being exported and instead use the petrol for rebuilding his country he created an enemy in the powerful Hale and Burton energy corporation who had instilled themselves within Arulco as part of an agreement for reparations and free-trade treaties with the US.
As international legal proceedings continued to dog Cardona's resources, lawlessness began to resurface and the criminals and warlords that had once been in hiding now began to reinstate themselves within the country and begin to grab a stranglehold of their own districts. This lack of security only seemed to attract more lawlessness, more criminals and more corruption and it was only a matter of time that the people became threatened by the very mercenary gangs that were supposed to be securing Arulco, they demanded for these foreign mercenaries to get out of their country.
A.I.M had held training bases in Alma, which was soon handed over to the rebuilt Arulco defence force, but managed to keep a vested interest by basing themselves south of Omerta, where they were still welcomed by the loyalty of the people there.
However, with the Government's intention to throw the mercenaries out of the country, the morale of the mercenaries sank and they started to look for their fortune privately, some even started to work for Hale and Burton and the fat salaries they were offering.
Then just as the unsettled country seemed to be sinking in a quagmire of bickering politics all hell broke loose, and one of the largest fears of Arulco's people reappeared in the shape of Queen Diedranna. Despite testimonies of senior A.I.M. staff and constant claims of her death, Deidranna was once again directing her newly revitalized army from every corner of the country. Her face was in the newspapers, on the TV and her voice spanned the airwaves, claiming her sovereignty and promising death to all conspirators of those who had tried to overthrow her before. Her first major address delighted in informing surviving rebels that with the help from double agents AIM's base had been leveled in an overnight raid by her army.
With their camp seemingly destroyed, funds hemorrhaging and their reputation ruined in a country that no longer trusted them, an associate company only known as 'The Agency' have sanctioned you to lead a band of mercenaries to reclaim their base and track down their staff.
Your goal is, to find Miguel Cordona and to restore his regime and find the traitors and punish them!
This is no longer business as usual....this is personal... this is VENGEANCE!!!

Nice german lochmacher
i haven`t tested with the mod with gold version. there are differences with the folders, like "savegame" folder and stuff have different names in german version
there`s also a "german" folder playing some role.
Now, apparently, it won`t work with ja2 gold 1.12
i don`t know what other versions you have but since it won`t work with gold, it appears it only works with german versions. Like the exe from ja2 vengeance tries to find files of german isntallation i guess

is there a way i can attach files to the forum? i guess not
@lochmacher
i can send you the german.slf archive. i guess this is required when playing a german exe but probably isn`t included in an english install
can you check whether there is ja2/data/german.slf archive in your install? if not, placing one there might help...

this applies to german release version of ja2 again, where you have patches 1 and 2 on CD
for english version it seems (see lochmacher`s posting above) that additional files are required in order for ja2 to work
i don`t have an unmodified english version so i can`t test myself. but i can send the german.slf archive. i think, with that installed it might work with version 1.05 or even gold installed

i think the best idea is to try it with your current version and see whether it works and is stable
i don`t know about the differences between the english versions

my exe seems unable to find your fonts.slf archive
i think this is quite a common error with new install. i guess there are people around here that can help you with this problem
if, after a new install (only ja2) the problem persists, you can extract the fonts.slf archive into fonts folder
but i bet there are better solutions around to this problem
probably in ja2 technical departement... i`ll have a look there

i knew i had seen this largefont1.sti before
its an error while installing ja2 see here http://jagged.gamigo.de/ja_forum/showthread.php?t=15524&highlight=largefont1.sti
there should be the correct file (NK_data.zip)
put this folder into the install and check if the problem persists (or you get another error message)
you`ll probably get another error message cannot initiate smallfont1.sti in this case you need to extract the fonts.archive into your ja2/data/fonts folder
i can email you the files needed if you wish

first we`d have to check about these compatibilities problems people have. i remember that an older version run on some people`s english install
but for that i`d need to know on what (english) versions it runs at all
it doesn`t seem to work with ja2 gold after what i`ve read here
subtitles:
there are at least 3 folders that would need translation. i dunno, maybe the german speech of new RPC or mercenaries could remain untranslated
then still there`d be tons of subtitles
additionally, quests and e-mails... however there it shoudl be possible to copy-paste from an english version to some extend. before taking a careful look at it, i can`t yet tell how much work that would be.
maybe i can, the other way around, carry some things that people would judge positive or well done fom ja2 vengeance into another mod (english, version 1.12 gold based, see Bearpit`s posting in off-topic forum; "new large scale mod?")
i think this is the better alternative

I have e-mail, and a happy-face guy with double machine pistols sneering at me.
Well, I started with my patched Jagged Alliance gold version (english) and I have the Vengeance mod running.
I started a new game and got the "internet" interface to read my e-mail and recruit mercs.
I haven't recruited anybody, and don't know if I will encounter some other glitch later. But I got past the crossed swords screen and that is what counts - right.
Not all these procedures will be necessary. I was fooling around.
I had a gold version, which I had patched up to Urban Chaos, and I applied the patch back to version 1.07 - because I wondered if an older version of the game would work better.
(The version 1.07 patch is still available from Jagged Alliance Galaxy (link to fileplanet)).
I then downloaded the Jagged Gold all-in-one patches from Jagged Alliance Basis

I figured the best way to make my English version more German would be to apply a German version patch over top of it.
Actually, I patched the JA2Gold_112_allinone patch over top of the JA2ALLINONE patch and then put the Jagged Alliance Vengeance mod files over top of this.
Finally, I patched the vengeance mod by putting the patch FONTS folder and the GERMAN.slf file into the game DATA folder. Be sure to look at the german forum link mentioned above to get the NK_data.zip and German.zip patches.
Then I put all of that on top of my cobbled together version 1.07 game.
I started it up and... no errors, no crashes, I am into the game. Not sure what made the difference (other than maybe my extra german patches), but I must have done something right.
Now to actually start playing this mod.
I am going to try to go back to a clean install to try this again. But I thought everyone should know that we can get an english version going with this mod - using files we can download for free.
