I just completed SOG'69 and wanted to share my comments and give my thanks to Becoming X.

The campaign is beautiful. It really has the look and feel of Vietnam (as if I know, not like I was there). It realistically pulls of the tense moments, the hidden mines, boobytraps, etc.

Becoming X accomplishes several wonderful things with this campaign:

- excellent use of passwords found on items that fit VERY well into the stroyline (congratulations to Bearpit1 for being the first to implement this).

- the use of teleporters via helicopters (as done in Sierro Gordo, which I havent played yet, its next Razz )

- awesome implementation of new items replacing old ones. The new items fit into the time period very well. Hats off to X for the insight and inspiration to come up with such wonderful ideas. Some examples are the smokes, medi paks, the new VC armor, the bandanas, the light scopes, the recoil buffers, and much much more.

- the new RPCs are .. well, a blast. Taylor, Ruiz, Sarge and Spooky. My god I wish I could use them in all my campaigns. Honestly, I would take Taylor and Spooky in any campaign if I could.

- its great fun when you add some personality to the game, whether to npcs or to items. The unique and more rare items are a blast, like the Stoner, the big machine gun (damn cant remember the name - the one you get for turning the weapons form to Chief), the x-bow and the Silent Carbine (which was modified to an 8 round clip from the vals 20 adding some much needed balance).

The storyline moves along very well, with each step moving you to a new sector in a linear fashion, however, each sector is open ended within itself. So it doesnt have a linear feel.

Lots of sectors with PLENTY of elites, many in camo. Talk about fun. Some of the sectors are refreshingly difficult with the enemy using nades, anti tank rockets and other weapons of destruction against you. Very challenging. Some of the cave sectors were so challenging and such great fun they will be in the back of my mind for a long time.

Somehow, X was able to implement the John and Mary quest in his campaign. Maybe this is easy to do and I am a newb, but it seems to drag and drop that quest from JA2 and put it in UB is an achievement worth mentioning. Of course theres a twist, dont want to spoil too much.

Contrary to a post I read, I thought the new images for items and weapons were done very well, exremely well in fact.

All in all, this campaign was great fun. It was so much more than a mere "new campaign" that I cant thank X enough. So much was done to add to the experience of being in vietnam. each map was created the feel of the area and the time.

Becoming X, congratulations on a grand achievement in this mod. You are truly a JA2 fanatic, and give us the opportunity to continue to be so ourselves Smile

Wow. Very Happy

Thanks very much for your comments Lord Dario.
I'm happy that you enjoyed the mod. As for Taylor, I'm happy somebody liked him, his voice is just my regular one, no half assed accents there.

Some things to know about Sierra Gordo. The patches and things were mainly released to fix problems with the passwords. Many of them are switched around and case sensitive. Unfortunately cases don't show up well in the JA font. There was also alot of frustration with my lack of organization with those passwords.
I thought there was a thread around here somewhere that posted answers for some of the problem passwords.

Anyway I hope you have fun.
