I've dropped it in the beginning of the game, it doesn't seem that it has affected my quest in any way...

Well that sucks, I sold it to betty and now it's gone forever, so now my game is screwed? I wish you guys would've told us to hang on to it. :hmm:

well, you can always use the old GABBI cheat in the tactical screen.

Place an item in your "left" hand so that you have one hand free and an item in the other. The right click the item in your off hand so that the detailed description comes up. Now press ctrl+w repetedly to cycle thru all the items untill you get the laptop. Remember - first all you will cycle thru all the weapons, then the ammo, then the explosives, then the first amount of items, then the keys/ranks, and then finally the last amount of items. When you cycle this way you will be shown all the items in the MyWeapons.txt order and the laptop is among the items (can't remember if it is before or after the keys/ranks thou. When you find the item just left click to exit the detailed description and you now have the item in your first/right hand.

Ramfall, I tried this and I pushed cntrl-w a bunch of times but I can not see the items switching, however, when I left click on the item(cigars) I always have an M21 in my hand. It never changes, how do I get it to the other items. Sorry if this is getting annoying but I can't get it to work. Thanks for the help.

Did you activate the GABBI cheat? You, standing in tactical screen (in one sector) holding down ctrl while typing g a b b i. If you do this correctly you should get a message which says 'cheatlevel two reached'.

After that happens, you should be able to follow my instruction above.

I did, used the gabbi, put cigars in my left hand, hit cntrl-w, not seeing anything change at all, but when I exit the cigars it is always an M21. I have a clean JA2 install and haven't modded at all. Any ideas? Did you try this successfully on your game?

Yes, it works almost in almost all versions. After you place the cigars in your left hand you must right click the item (so that the larger image pops up) and then press ctrl+w.

Related to this - and it screwed my game - but it might help KEVs...

I had already got the quest and laptop from carmen. I met him a second time in Calisto...I think his character is a little bit bugged, 'cos here's what happened....when I tried to talk to him direct he tried to give me the quest and laptop a second time....unfortunately this hung my game (spinning clock spun forever), I guess because the game tries to upadate your history with the same item it's already been upadated with once?

In "normal" JA2, if you talked to Carmen but didn't give him a head, he'd give you the speech saying he was in a rush or something...

But maybe if KEVs has sold the laptop, it will work for him?

I guess I could try that but then I have to go around looking for Carmen, because he moves, right? I don't understand why Ramfalls suggestion isn't working.

I tested this cheat. But it's long time ago when it worked. Precisely: before I had JA2 Gold (Version 1.12). They terminated all cheats in this Version or one before. So it doesn't work.

if Carmen tries to give you the quest AND items again this is what causes the clock spinning - he tries to access specific items from his inventory (machete and laptop) and when he doesn't find them the game hangs... So, that won't help KEVs. Sorry.

@KEVs,
try this to make sure you have the GABBI cheat on. In the tactical screen press alt+t. This should make your selected character stand where your cursor points. If it doesn't, the GABBI cheat isn't activated.

You say that you always get a M21!? That item is in the end of the weapons. Just before the crowbar. Where you able to spawn more than one?

it works in both UC (which is based on 1.07) and Dvorniks upgrade to 1.12... Those are the two versions I use.

And, since the Rank system is based on the use of this feature...

The cheat works, it teleports, I have also used it for the rank system, however the item cheat is not working. Yes, I can spawn a million M24s if I want, but that's it. When you are hitting cntrl-w do you see an item list or items changing? I also looked for carmen in Atremo and Callisto but couldn't find him, but I guess this wouldn't help me either. Is there any waw to hard code or edit my merc to have the laptop in his hand? When I click cntrl-w 1 time only a M24 comes up. :whoknows:

items changing. You should continue to press ctrl+w without leftclicking. Instead of just pressing ctrl+w 1 time as you describe you should press ctrl+w 228 times. Because the laptop is itemnumber 228!

Thought I'd try it too, out of interest...same as KEVs - I can teleport (don't press Ctrl + T, lol, you end up a POW Very Happy

) - but Ctrl + W gives me an M21 every single time....

It doesn't matter if I hit it 1 or 100 times, it is still an M21, and I don't see items changing. WTF is going on here, I really really don't want to start over. I think if I can't fx this I'm gonna give up on this mod. :computer2:

Where are you from? Which .exe are you using or rather, which version did you use for your original install? Gold?

And there's always JAPE which is a program that edits the savegame. It should be available from Ja Galaxy. The laptop replaces the diskette.

ramfall - thanks, but my game is fine - I'd saved before speaking to carmen the second time, so I just reloaded, no problem.

BTW, I'm playing with an "original" unpatched version of JA2 - had it since it came out, only thing added to it is UC itself (thanks for the mod btw, it's great - tho' my girlfriend isn't quite so enthusiastic Wink

)

And if you did want to help me, you could let me know how the hell to recruit Goose - or escort him back to the chopper (I assume he is Skyrider's replacement?) Very Happy

We are all gonna feel like morons on this one. I figured out the problem. I haven't used the GABBI cheat before so I wasn't too familiar with it until this mod. I was messing around and found something interesting. The problem is that you told me to hit cntrl-w instead of alt-w, which works fine. hahaha. I leave in silence now.

I encounter the same problem with the GABBI cheat as some people, when i press ctrl+W i get a M24 everytime.
I use the patched Gold version, and haven't encountered any problem so far.

Read the post by KEVs above. The correct cheat is Alt+W instead of Ctrl+W. (And you have to right-click to bring up the description of an item)
