Oh yeah, and a special for JMich, master of the XMlEditor:

Weapons.xml:
FLOAT usOverheatingJamThreshold should be between 0.0 and 60000.0, default 4000.0
FLOAT usOverheatingDamageThreshold should be between 0.0 and 60000.0, default 5000.0
FLOAT usOverheatingSingleShotTemperature should be between 0.0 and 60000.0, default 80.0

AmmoTypes.xml:
FLAOT temperatureModificator should be between -1.0 and 10.0, default 0.0

Items.xml:
BOOLEAN barrel is 0 or 1
FLOAT usOverheatingCooldownFactor should be between 0.0 and 60000.0, default 100.0

new stuff:
FLOAT overheatTemperatureModificator should be between -1.0 and 10.0, default 0.0
FLOAT overheatCooldownModificator should be between -1.0 and 10.0, default 0.0
FLOAT overheatJamThresholdModificator should be between -1.0 and 10.0, default 0.0
FLOAT overheatDamageThresholdModificator should be between -1.0 and 10.0, default 0.0

theoretically, one could set the modificator values to ridiculous values, but why is beyond me... A modificator of 0.5 means that a value is increased by 50%, tha's massive.
