Because when you talk about balance, it sounds like you got a plan instead of just making a bunch of cool toys and stuff for the players.
Let me just say that i dont give a fuck about the balance.
Sometimes i just want to steamroll something, and what would be better then Space marines with bigass weapons?
Im just dreaming here though.


I actually have a plan. It is actually very detailed, yet I would propably need years to accomplish all that (srsly).

My main concern about balance is that something very unbalanced makes playing not fun anymore. I'm trying to implement new stuff that has pros but also cons (hence the boni and mali of corruption). As another example, the Plasma Gun is very very deadly, but also very very prone to overheating - which results in a explosion, so the player has to be very careful. Same goes for the psyker: very powerful abilities at the cost of damage to oneself.

The battle sister with power armor are as much overpowering as I'll allow (in a proper wh40k, you'd only get them very late, and with serious repercussions). If you want to steamroll, make an athletic battle sister with a melee trait (and give her a power fist or chainsword once I've implemented them). With their armor, melee actually becomes a valid option. I'm not sure how space marines would be able to top that - 1 hit is enough to at least send the enemy unconscious.

If you have a certain idea that you are following, might i still suggest going along the lines of Inquisitor partys ?
Like the Inq, battle sisters, psykers, acolytes(soldier archtype) and tech support.
This would still leave room for a lot of interessting combinations and traits without going OP and would work with your inclusion of corruption.
Though i like OP, Grey knight terminators maybe? Smile


I plan to incorporate more traits, like tech adept and commissar. The way I envision it the Inquisition would be a 'side' in the game that you do quests for, but also get as an enemy (for example if your corruption is too high...). Might do an Inquisitor himself, but not sure yet.

On the other hand, a squad of imperial guard mercs with flashy equipment and traits could also rock.
Either in the way of Steiners convict unit or as a commando like the Kasrkin or other Guard veteran units.
But its probablly tricky to choose things from the lore which can actually be represented in the game and are usefull.


Might also do something like that.. as said before, I'm planning to add something like 'very minor traits' or 'background'. Things that would relate a bit to the mercs former regiment - like
  • Tallarn Raider: +AP in desert
  • Valhallan: +something while in snow (but we don't have snow, doh!)
  • Catachan: +level in jungle sectors
  • Cadian Kasrkin: +Melee Damage (?)
  • Vostroya: +suppression resistance
  • and so on...
