@Dieter: I also tried custom animations. As I made them (in paint *g*), they looked horrible. What I also did (and am still planning to do once I get back to working on this) is to introduce new explosion types.

For example, my idea of implementation of a flamer would be a auto-only gun. Its bullets would have the 'flame' animation inflight (already exists ingame, but is never used). The idea is to give the bullets an explosive type and link that one to a very small (like, 1 tile) flame cloud effect (like used in molotovs). That way, wherever you fire with the flamer, for 1 or 2 rounds the area would burn, but not as huge as the molotov cocktail. To saturate an area with fire, you#d have to 'spray' your bullets, which seems a pretty neat implementation to me.

Adding new animations is pretty easy actually, my problem is just that my art looks horrible Smile

With lasers, however, I have the problem that you'd need a coloured line, which can't really be done with animations. However, the very old tracer animations look pretty laserlike if used with a rapid-fire auto weapon (just like DOM did it). Haven't found that code yet.
