Well, it there are enemies that shooting you, there is probably one or more enemies that's seeing one of your merc, maybe through the house windows, and other enemies even if don't see you may use suppression fire
but i doubt a bullet can go through 2-3 walls but yes bullets sometime can go through walls or doors.
