A quicker and easier option is to enter the sector, switch on cheats, ctrl-H on the tanks until they blow up then switch off the cheats.

You may need to show all enemies - is that Alt-E ?? I can't remember. It's on my cheat sheet documentation but I don't have it to hand.

If I ever bother going to the end city that's what I have to do because I really-really hate the jump in difficulty at the game end. I've killed off Diedranna a few dozen times so I know what happens.

I just hate tanks (and sandbanked positions defended with machine guns!)...and sometimes I'm just really useless at playing this game.
