If you want to look at the sourcecode for a fairly modern game, check out the id Software releases like Doom, Quake 1 and 2 (source code for all three available at http://ftp.idsoftware.com). The source code for Abuse, a 2D side-scroller, is also available. I know there is at least one other recent game with source available - it's a 2D RTS game, forgot the name though.
