I'm pretty new to the forum and Jagged Alliance 2. I've been playing around with the game recently and found that I quite enjoy attempting to clear a sector with a single merc trying to sneak around undetected. Now I don't have a whole lot of experience or knowledge about the game, mostly just using what seems cool to this point, but I do want to see what I can do to optimize that playstyle, which brings me to my question. How would you equip one merc for the best chances of success on a stealth mission?

The merc needs high agility and dexterity, and skilled in stealth, night ops, and knifing or throwing for close-up work. As for equipment, high camo stat is quite useful, however I don't know if the ghillie covers affect stealth close up as I tend to pling away across the screen with my snipers. Throwing knives and a high-damage, low AP knife are a must (Seal 2000 I think has the best balance between damage and AP cost, with the KCB and Combat knife following suit. The Katana should be awesome considering its stats, but I haven't had a chance to use it yet... and it doesn't fit into the knife slot).

Solo, I use Mouse/IMP stealthy spy disguised as a soldier ultimately equipped with AS Val w/combat knife bayonet, ghillie suit, night-vision goggles, electronic ears, camo, and stun & dart guns. Early game weapons are usually silenced PPsh-41, L2A3, or P90. The Vintorez has a smidge better range and accuracy but can't take bayonet.
Strategies solo are:
1. Snuggle up behind a lone enemy, shoot 'em in the head, and run away.
2. If that is too loud, snuggle up behind a lone enemy/elite, stun or dart gun 'em followed with a bayonet/rambo knife in the neck.
3. Camo and get cozy in some tall grass and clear a sector. The enemy AI congregates around shot enemies. If an enemy is shot outside of a weapon's sound range, a large cluster of targets forms. Works in daylight.
Strategies with other mercs to speed things up are:
1. With stealth sniper/machinegunner mercs, she can act as 'spotter' to find enemies that others engage from safe distance outside sight range of enemy. This makes taking out two or three enemies close together easier in one turn. Also, if others suppress the enemy they often lay prone and can be walked up to and stabbed in the neck if spy is close. Enemies crouched and aiming also seem to be easier to stab in neck without losing disguise.
2. Door/gate keeper during counterattack. Many sectors with buildings have a building with a door and a room with no windows some distance from the door. The spy can stand in the doorway and let the enemies trickle in to be eventually interrupt killed by mercs in the room.
