Hardcore/Ironman solo game

Have you ever tried playing JA2(gold) with your IMP only? In ironman mode (no game reloads)? If so, post your experiences here. Be sure to include where, when and how your IMP died. Also IMP stats would be nice.

All my games have been:
-JA2 gold
-Tons of guns
-Expert
-Sci-Fi
-Save anytime (But (practically) no reloads!, this is because of (fear of) technical issues).

I'm about to start my 7th hardcore solo game. Man... I've never had more fun with JA2 than now (although IMP dying ain't so fun Sad ).

So far, the 2nd attempt was most memorable as my IMP assaulted Drassen airport and took total of 7 hits by yellow-shirts (killed by 7th)... ALL WITH CRAPPY PISTOLS OVER 20 TILES AWAY!! Goddamn I was furious! HAH!

Longest game (6th) so far was:
- 34 days (not too much loitering around)
- 256 kills
- 26 assists
- hitperc. 59%
- 31 battles (had Drassen, Alma, NE SAM-site, Balime)
- 39 times wounded

(these are the last confirmed stats as I accidentally saved over 'after he died' -savegame)

His stats were:
HEA... 85
AGI... 82(+2)
DEX... 70(+5) (can't remember if I took critical hit, prob. not)
STR... 89(+29) (exploits used, won't happen again Very Happy )
LDR... 69(+34) (this one's god-honest purely by experience achieved number)
WIS... 80
MRK... 95(+15)
MEC... 47(+12)
EXP... 64(+29) (exploits, won't do it again. I swear)
MED... 52(+17) (lot of doctoring imo, also practically resurrected some of the militia)

Auto Weapons
Night Ops

CAUSE OF DEATH: Was hit by a flare during night-fight (sector S of Estoni), followed by a stun grenade after which got shot to pieces in the following round while lying around helplessly.

Exploits were applied around day 20 or so, so plz don't judge me as a complete cheater Very Happy , I won't use them again. Ever. I promise.

If you're inspired to try a hardcore game of your own, I highly recommend giving at least 80 MRK as you get the MP5K (helps a lot! although I'm starting to think this as an exploit (BAD, BAD, BAD!!)

Oh yeah... this one was 4th game (maybe):
I was trying to take Drassen mine sector (3rd attempt in that game). There was a fierce fight between the (probably) last yellow-shirt and IMP. IMP was badly wounded and passed out behind a rock out of sight (energy booster wore off) and that's when the kamikaze yellow-shirt decided to pull out his knife and let me out my misery. (Just when I thought "I'm out of sight, he won't have the guts to come here")

Anyone interested on a diary,containing the exploits of a team trying to conquer the entire Arulco in under 24 hours?
Time of arrival and conquest of each sector,inventory found,merc progress,positions and tricks used,etc.
Sorry,it will probably be slow and it sure won't look like a story-unless my English improves dramatically. Smile

Enrico's an A-hole

So I was getting ready to go on the attack again when I'm hit with a massive attack. I lose more than half the militia in that square (full contingent, all regular militia), and my men are hit pretty hard.

I'm still licking my wounds when a few hours later I get a note from Enrico that I'm not doing a good enough job. Suddenly my support in the town I'm in drops just below the point where I can train more militia.

I realize it's just one of those things meant to make the game more challenging, and I'm not complaining about it that much... but doesn't it make Enrico look like a complete a-hole? I just defended his city from a major attack and am trying to restore order and all he can do is criticize me? It's not a good idea to piss off your only hope for your countries freedom!

JA2/Fallout

For those of you that love Fallout (like me) and own it (like me) you may like the upcoming mod, which is a cross between fallout and JA2 as far as i can tell.

*warning* the mod is based on fallout with ja sprites (or whatever you call them) this means if you dont have fallout you wont be able to play it, but just in case..and plus if you dont have fallout but you like rpgs, buy it!

Someone does not like water...

There seem to be some funny things about water in JA2...

First, I've been ambushed by bloodcats with Flo alone. I supposed her to be summarily slaughtered, but she ended up in a water stream...guess what happened? Bloodcats did not enter water and Flo could safely retire..!!! Funny thing that...but there is another yet more funny:

I went to seek skyrider and I finally found him after 14 hours :rolleyes: . On the way back to Drassen, I encountered an enemy patrol. I decided to give it a try and positioned my merc in the lower left of the screen, because I wanted to get to Drassen without firing a shot. It was night in the game and light was coming in form my window so I didn't look very well at the terrain, and all my mercs were in shallow water, including Skyrider. I looked at them and....SKYRIDER IS STANDING ABOVE WATER! (ye Gods,our heli pilot is actually Jesus Christ in disguise Very Happy ) Damn I laughed about five minutes when I noticed that..my laughter was soon interrupted because when I attempted to leave the sector moving Skyrider, the game crashed Mad

Is there anything else that is "afraid" of water?

Gumpy dies in prison

Gumpy and Flo were overrun in the mine sector of Alma which they were not prepared to defend. There were only 10 green-shirt Militia defending against 16 mixed black-shirt and red-shirt soldiers. Gumpy and Flo beat a hasty retreat to the outhouse at the north of the map. I should have retreated them off the map, but I said to hell with it -- I am sick and tired of retreating, I'll have these two kill the enemies one at a time as they enter the outhouse.

As Gumpy and Flo were primarily militia-trainers, they were not well armed... Flo had a .45 Thompon SMG and Gumpy had an FA-MAS.

They were only level 2.... not really experienced enough to get the first shot (interrupts). I really shouldn't have made them make a last-stand like that, but I just felt like it.

The first round of contact, they killed a single redshirt, and they had to use up all their APs to do so.

The second round, an elite barged into the outhouse and killed Flo immediately with full-auto 7.62mm fire. She died right in front of the toilet.

The third round, Gumpy sprayed at the elite with full-auto fire and only hit him once... way to go, Gumpy! The elite offered him the option to Surrender and I knew that Gumpy had no other choice.

Gumpy was taken to the jail in N7 and interrogated. Joe really kicked the crap out of him. Even Elliot took a little swipe at poor Gumpy, for 2 damage points.

Gumpy never made it past the first guard. He threw the throwing knife at the guard's head and hit him for 9 points of damage. Gumpy then retreated around a corner and waited for the guard to follow.

The next round Gumpy punched the guard twice, for 8 and 4 points of damage... the guard fired a full-auto MAC10 burst into Gumpy and he fell to the ground and bled to death.

(I think that's the first time I had a MERC who could not escape from the prison... Gumpy was just too weak and low-level to make it out!)

Good riddance to Gumpy anyway, I didn't feel like listening to his crap this campaign.

Priceless Moments

Raven sitting in front of a door in Alma. It opens, in comes a redshirt. Raven gets the interrupt at point blank range and blows his head clean off.
End Turn.
Another red shirt comes in, Raven gets the interrupt again and blows his head off too. I think about four or five came through the door. Blood all over the place, Raven's morale bar at the highest it can be.
Priceless.

1.10 enemies "cheat"

I am getting a bit frustrated, because the enemies in JA2Gold sort of cheat with break lights/grenades. Take for example, I enter a sector with 2 mercs. I shoot a enemy with a burst from RPK, go back 10 squares, crouch down, wait one turn. There it comes, an enemy throws a breaklight exactly on my position, never even seeing me. I have proven this with sneaking back on an enemy with Miguel, while my IMP kills an enemy about 30 squares away from the enemy that has Miguel behind him. He stands up, and whee, there goes the break light, leading to a million bullets flying from everywhere to my IMP. Day is different, but I avoid attacking at day because I'm playing the 8000+ even harder save.

Mercenaries... REAL life companies like AIM!

I did a search on the net and dug a little, and look here.
AIM competitor
This is a mercenary company like AIM.
However, they do not claim it officially but they are known to have activities in Sierra Leone. And they have what you can say, suspicous positions availible in the company.
There real name is Military Professional Resources, Inc (MPRI).

look at theese and you see the same connections as me... Mercenaries are like AIM.
There are also suspcted to be Russian parts selling firm that hires out pilots to countries that pay great money, Really big money in a war.
So my friends, interesting huh?
