Badge for special merits as a community member

AIM Legend

Badge for special merits in JA2 modding (awarded to modding team/author)

Team v1.13

JA2RR Legend

JA2MFM Legend

JA2 Stracciatella

Badge for special merits in JA2 guns modding

Master Gunsmith

Badge for special merits in tileset design and mapping

Master Builder

Badge for special merits in general mod development

Senior Modder

Badge for special merits in modding research

Recon Ops

Will be awarding more special merit badges to major modders and contributors to the community. These are judged separately, taking into consideration a lot of things, from the activity on these boards to the work they've performed for the community projects.

NOTE: This is a slower process since it involves a bit of case study for each individual so at first it might seem like we're giving away favours to some and ignoring the others. It's not the case, in time everyone that is an active member of BP, has brought to life a major mod or has had a critical contribution to one will be recognized.

If you want to make me a suggestion of such a case, please use PMs. I won't tolerate debates on this because they tend to degenerate in flamewars.

Just a list of possible recognition you can look into:

For the longest time, Lisac did the item/weapon graphics for 1.13.

Wil473 is converting UC to 1.13, not his original work, but he has put in almost 2 years worth of effort to acheive the conversion in it's current state which while still a beta is very much playable and enjoyable.

Khor has not finished his mod, but has been an invaluable forum member in the past, has been extremely helpful in 1.13 since the beginning, and I beleive he did some animations for 1.13. You'd have to ask him about the animations, crouching/prone law/grenade chunking and the fallback death animation. I'm not sure if he did some or all, or if we even used the ones he did, which is why you'd need to ask him.

Shed23 wrote a Modding guide for 1.13 that covered mostly Map Editing, as well as providing a set of maps to be used with 1.13, and so did AZ, but I beleive AZ's compilation consisted of Maps from various authors.

There were also a small handfull of guys responsible for putting together a Wildfire 1.13 Hybrid along the same lines as the UC hybrid, Roman was involved with that, and I beleive is hosting the Hybrid in it's current state. I don't know all their names, but the thread is stickied in the XML Customization thread.

DBB should probably be recognized, I'd say a good 25% of 1.13 players use his item mod, and he has got to be either tied with or close to Starwalker's XML Editing abilities. Not sure what name he goes by on the forums here though.

That's as far back as my memory works though.

EDIT:

Quote:

Nah, he needs a rifle cleaning badge, or possibly him and Headrock should both get a badge with an LBE on it Smile Between the two of them, the entire design of NIV came about before it was really ever discussed on the forums and found a coder (might have been another designer or two in there that I forget, sorry).

- I am going thru the official credits list for v1.13 step-by-step, so those shouldn't be any problem. just added Lisac while you were posting... Starwalker is already in the Team v1.13.

- Agreed with the others, i will look into each of these cases and consider them (will take some time to think of custom badges though).

- Can anyone think of a AIM badge specific to a gfx artist? My brainstorm refused to take off, I must've drank too little coffee today... Two paintbrushes crossed look stupid, trust me, I've tried... Smile)

@majek - thanks, finally someone who actually reads my question. the badge doesn't fit the theme though. I need a symbol small enough to scale down and be still visibile. And look like it's been sewn into a real badge. if military related, the better...

@tbird - the crossed hammers are meant as graphical representation of builder, creator of things, craftsman, fixer, etc. they will be used on more than one badge. I won't go as far as putting flags on badges simply because we'll end up with XX badge variants and will be a nightmare to administer from the forum CP.

the monkey looks great, lol... doesn't help though...

@ Majek, cute .. could you make it three-headed ?

Artists ... the pensil is mightier than the SWAT-Sig SG 552 ?
There's all types of branches in the military, but I don't see a special decoy/painting brigade.

After some 5 minutes of browsing, I think an engineers-badge might work.

- funny patch, I think it will be on a pixel-painters mind every once in a while: "patience my ass, I'm gonna kill something".

Well playing with shading a little thos color could look like they've been sewn into the badge. Smile

Or we could have just simple "Identification tabs" like US has for Sapper,Special Forces, Rangers. After all artist take pride in their work and not how they look like Very Happy

ehehe or maybe we should look for inspiration by North Koreans. Hammer, sickle and paintbrush ftw Very Happy

Well, after much thought, a couple of beers and intense googling, I found that Canadian Army Engineers have a nice badge:

http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/1Combat_Engineers/images/Engcrest.gif

and after more beers and eyeball busting pixel work, it resulted in this:

@Shanga, just curious, can you put in the break points for the different ranks in the first post? i.e. Recruit is 1-25 posts, etc?

Nice work on these, I've been getting a kick out of them. (Back to lurking) :ok:

Breakpoints aren't public and they are subject to change. The reson is to avoid useless spamming for the sake of getting another badge. But they're in 10s and 100s, with quite an easy to reach limit.

PS: Actually, we can "award" anyone who spams a permanent "Recruit" badge easily. Funny... never thought of this idea before... mhahahaha!

I think best badge for Az would be a pair of glasses. He seems to have a problem reading anything above his own posts, even if there's a clear explanation there...

I never imagined these badges would be so subtle even great minds of modding would have troubles figuring them out. Or if it's not a skull (...with a knife thru it, thanks mm) it's too complicated?

ROFL, leave me alone, I have more intellectual things to do... like watch soccer...
