Nice defense!
Just for kicks, and the nostalgia trip, I've been (re)reading your account of your JA2UC IronMan game from a few years back.
Good times!
NB: For the newer folks, the old JA2UC is not compatible with JA 1.13, although a project was ongoing to convert it.

Answering both questions:
(1) Yes it takes me forever to write and play a single combat, because I do it as it happens and switch back and forth between Open Office and the game. I also try and remember to take screen shots from time to time and then convert their format to jpg and post them to a hosting site and then incorporate the IMG tags into the storyline.
(2) You should know the usage for a rod and spring... to lower the AP cost for firing full auto. With a rod and spring on my VSS Vintorez it has a cost of 7 AP for single shot and 8 AP for full auto. You can't put a reflex sight, nor ACOG combo scope on a VSS Vintorez, so the rod and spring is the best option. This makes the VSS Vintorez a devastating killing machine at medium range, for night missions. There is no better mid ranged, silent killing weapon, than the Vintorez.
Sure you can equip other weapons with suppressors and make them have less AP cost but they suffer from range, or weight, or accuracy. Just for shits and giggles, someone show me a weapon other than the VSS Vintorez that has these or better specs and is silent.
Accuracy 7
Damage 33
Range 40
Weight 9.7 lbs - when fully equipped with PSO-3 sniper scope, Rod & spring, LAM 2000, and Fore grip ( for better auto fire control )
AP 7 and AP 8 for full auto
I keep the extra rods and springs for other weapons I come across that I might use in other situations such as daylight missions. I tend to keep quite a bit of extra junk and outfit weapons for my militia that are very deadly. Example: I might equip a Groza with GP25, rod and spring, Acog combo scope, 40mm grenade, and fill it with 7.62 x 39mm Match ammo, and leave it out for the militia to find and use.
But this is just how I play. I feel that anything I can give to the militia to help them do better is worth the effort, as long as it does not take away from my other mercenaries, if I have any.
