I guess not only me is abusing ALT-S ALT-L "quick save - quick load" feature. I remember that I used to play Silent Storm in Iron Man mode, but it was possible to save while not in turn based. So you're not allowed to save in turn based mode, but you can save even if enemies are present in sector, in real time mode.

Adding this to JA2 will be a balance between current Iron Man and save anytime. While pure Iron Man is too tough, both because of CTDs and difficulty, an option like this would be an improvement and will add a bit of moderation in overall difficulty.

It is easy to perform it, file is "GameSettings.cpp", function "CanGameBeSaved()" - the section for enemies in sector should be removed (function became like "if (gTacticalStatus.uiFlags & INCOMBAT) return FALSE else return TRUE;")

Comments, please? Smile

AFP; I concur. This would be great. I've not done IronMan yet because I've been doing alot of beta testing with NIV. CTDs are much fewer now, but this option would do the trick.

Great, I will include it in my next minimod release. If anyone can add this as an option to the main branch, it is very easy too perform. I'm testing it right now, getting my ass kicked and I can' restore Smile)

It's frustrating sometimes. I never played Iron Man since I restarted JA2. You need at least a merc with high agility to avoid enemy interrupts.

Hi AFP i wanted to congratulate you for your great work on BE5!

Nevertheless i must admit i disagree with you. Iron man mode on the hard way setting should be kept.

I used to play in expert and was an alt-s abuser. : When you just saved your are more self confident and you go forward without care. Now i play in Insane-Iron mode and even in real time you always got to be cautious of what you here and how you hide. It gives more realism.

Furthermore it's important that for ja players that finished the game in all modes there is a setting like this.

I play with rebel versions and the only bug i had is the unfinishing clock, in that case you let your computer alone for 5 min and when you come back its ready.

Though in think an intermediary mode lik "steel" or "plastic" mode that should be like you say is a good idea to be implemented.

jup, i play a mod with what afp/ coolberg describe, but well...

... i think it could be put into options ini as a switch between real iron man and lame-ass iron man because some people probably require the "hard" iron man mode for their specific playing style.

Coolberg: whatever great ideea I have, I discover someone made it before me. I need to get rid of this, somehow Smile

Nik: thanks. Long live alt-s abusers! Smile After playing half an hour in iron mode, I get back to alt-s, it's not the best ideea for me to test the minimod. I had to get back 10-15 minutes every time, which disrupt my observations. On the other hand, it's very simple to have 3 options: normal, iron man easy, iron man hard Wink

Scorpion: just read you answer after the lines above.....

Finished full Iron Man game, on custom difficulity level - between normal and hard. It was my best game ever. It wasn't stable though - got some nasty CTDs near Meduna, and it was frustrating.
My last game (NIV) was superstable, I wish I started it on Iron Man... I didn't because NIV was still beta and I didn't know what to expect in terms of stability.

Does anyone have a link to a mod like this? Or can someone tell me start to finish how to do this for iron man mode?
