I've never really looked at any of the guides for mercs, and whatnot - I always judged them by how their stats page looks in-game. But I hear talk of hidden stats, like how much sleep a merc needs, etc. (I have noticed Dimitri needs to sleep more often than my IMP)

What other stats are there, that are "hidden" from the player ingame? So far all I really know about are the numeric attributes like Health, Strength, Marksmanship, etc. and their Traits/personality. What else is there?

Just start ProEdit.exe in \JA2\Data\BinaryData. It's the tool for viewing and editing everything that's got to do with mercs and NPCs... though for editing you first need to rename your prof.dat to something else (like prof2.dat), then find the prof*.dat for the settings you want to play with (like Prof_Expert_TonsOfGuns.dat) and rename that to prof.dat. Then You can edit this one and finally rename everything back to what it was before. But be warned, I don't think, it does work with the New Inventory yet. And please make backups before changing anything, just in case something gets messed up...

For the 1.13 you need to open Proedit.exe from

Data1.13/Binarydata/Proedit.exe
Make your changes (if any)
Save

Now comes the 'tricky part'. I do not know if Proedit works at all for the new inventory version so your changes may only affect old inventory version. I am pretty sure the changes to Proedit do not affect NIV but you can at least look at the stats. SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF I AM MISTAKEN.
In old inventory mode: however, all you have to do after making your changes in proedit and saving is to:

Copy/Paste your Prof.dat file somewhere else like your desktop
Rename the prof.dat to whatever difficulty level/ guns mode you play (i.e. ProfExperiancedTonsOfGuns.dat)
Cut/Paste this .dat file with the changed name back to your Binarydata folder (allowing it to overwrite the existing one.
Start a new game
Enjoy your changes.

Here's a handy little Excel file called Ledtim's Merc Chart that has all the stats (including the hidden ones) for every RPC and merc in the game.

NIV is not affected by changes in pro-edit /only/ where it comes to the equipment section, other changes should work just fine. But I think you need to start a new game to have the changes take effect (at the start of a new game, all data in prof.dat and Mercstartinggear.xml are saved in the savegame and then taken from there, so changes after the start of the game have no effect, IIRC).
