Hey,

Have no idea how to recruit Shank, Jake has told me of him, found Tixa, killed everyone and found Shank, yet every time I try and recruit/direct/friendly He "needs time alone". Dunno why he'd need time alone in a dungeon with corpses. Tried talking to Jake to reset the quest, he says nothing.

Any ideas? So far even exiting and coming back doesn't seem to have an effect.

Using a merc with High leadership helps. Then talk friendly to him until he talks about being betrayed and why he is in prison. After that you should be able to recruit. (I just recruited him myself).

Yeah, it's probably because you spoke to him with a merc with low leadership. Also there is that hidden negotiation trait thingy.

Easier if you already have Dynamo; & like Dynamo you must let him tell his tale first.

That's what I just wanted to do, already got Dynamo.
After killing everything moving downstairs, I wanted to recruit Shank.

I was listening to all his story and agreed paying him the 20 bucks.
But after that, the game shuts down showing the error message

"missing file for character #67"

Does anyone know where I can get this file and where I have to store it into?
Or maybe can someone of you send me this file out of his folder.

Thanks very much for yer help

Have you modded the game in anyway? Patched?

If not I would suggest that you backup your saves and reinstall the game completely.

Thanx for yer tip - I only wanted to play it once without patching first.
Can I still use my saves when patched?

You have missing npc sound files; is your copy of the game a shitty download? If so your game is going to be peppered with such errors. Buy the f*cker from Amazon; it's only a few dollars.

I got an original one, even with original package and booklet.
The one I owned before (lost or leant it) was only the cd - but it worked out.

I will finish this game, I already got all cities except Meduna and the two near research centers.
After that I will upgrade the game.

But thanks anyway for your help!

How in the hell have you got missing files? Accidental delete? Virus? I'd be a bit more worried matey peep! But seriously if it's just a few files make a new copy of the game and search for the file your error message listed. If it still not there somebody can send I'm sure.

I suspect some personality traits (arrogant, pessimistic, a-hole, etc) also prevent from getting the favored result when interacting with characters. Not 100% sure but keep this in mind if a merc with 80 LDR can't seem to convince someone... In one of my games Haywire was especially unsuccessful at talking to people in San Mona, even though his LDR was 50 at the time. Fits his bio though. I love JA2. Very Happy

Haha that's insane..

No way I have a Virus - Mac Afee is watching
Delete isn't possible neither, I never went to the folder.

I did not have any other problems, just that one with Shank that made me being unsure.

But anyways, I will finish the game like that, thank you for your support!

All the same you have some missing files hence the crash. A duff install. & no leadership has nothing to do with it here because he already agree to join... some Sphinx you turned out to be! Just don't ask any riddles ok?

maybe you already reached the max amount of mercs you can hire? In which case you'd have to fire / dismiss one.

Hi Seiwi, We need to go by the error message, everything else is speculation, no offense everyone. Please check if you have the following files:

\Data\faces\33FACE\67.sti
\Data\faces\65FACE\67.sti
\Data\faces\Animated Faces\67.sti
\Data\faces\BIGFACES\67.sti
\Data\NpcData\067.npc

I checked in my working install and these are the only files having 67 in their file name.

Also go into \Data-1.13\BinaryData and look for PROEDIT.EXE. Start the program and check if you can see data for Shank, he is at position 67. For example his full name is Breeham "Shank" Druz etc.

Also check \Data-1.13\TableData\MercStartingGear.xml, it needs an entry for 67, however all items are zero as he is "naked" (no gear) when you find him.

Can't think of any other places to look, anyone else has an idea?

Having talked to Shank, without a crash, one of his face-files must be present.
If it's a face, I would guess it's the face-that appears in the mercrow-bottom of screen.

I've had 'lockups', when during a conversation Ira makes her sector-speech.
Perhaps this happened to you ?
After Ira's interupt the former dialogue can be 'frozen', the next question/threat/recruit leads to a long stopwatch. (that's when I alt-X, sorta saddened since I haven't saved.)
