In a JA2 1.13 normal difficulty game, I was taking over the chitzena SAM when naturally Mike decided to show up; even on normal difficulty this causes a bit of a bump in the gameplay.

Or it usually does, anyway.

IMP and Wolf (wolf rules, btw) were both heading into the control room when Mike charged out the door they were about to enter; and initiated his usual "blah blah, I'm going to murder you with your own leg" speech that he gives.

Note that he was saying this three feet away from Wolf.

When the combat round started, Wolf immediately gave him a sucker-punch that'd make Mohammed Ali proud, then stole his G11 and all his items. In a touch of irony, I decided to give him a chance to run before -I- shot.

Turns out Mike can't run faster than a whole clip of full-auto G11 rounds. Har.

I'll link to a savegame if anybody wants to give mike their own brand of killing, too.

HAHAHAHAHA, I also had a little Mike blues this weekend.
Though all I did was blast open his skull with an AK-74 before I retreated (Got very hot and I didn't fancy having everyone using me for target practice)

After I took cover, Mike just stayed there, bleeding.
In the end when I had softened up the competition a bit I found Mike.
This time he was rather in bad shape, he had gone from Wounded to DYING while I was fighting.
I really had to laugh, the game had done most of the job for me.

I usually punch Mike to death..

Serves him right for being an idiot and runing right into all of my merc neatly positioned in a fireing line.

Once I had knocked the G11 out of Mike's hands with a stun grenade, and Nails was able to retrieve it. Now, Mike was A-ok next round, but minus his firearm he wisely hoofed it around a corner. I should have saved at this point, because at this point I lost my squad from a grenade chain firing four packages of dynamite in a stupid move.

This has left a deep, unanswered question: What happens if you leave a disarmed, but otherwise unhurt Mike alone in a sector?

Will he rearm himself? Will he just wander around in that sector useless, or go home?

I knocked his G11 out of his hands one time. The next turn he ran and grabbed an AKM off the ground!

Myself, I always tried to punch Mike down and disarm him.
His thick armour made gunfights turn out badly for (more of) my mercs.
So I'd move in close with two soldiers and in my own-turn clobber/disarm him.

In 1.13 ... I haven't met Mike.
(I could set the .ini so that Mike appears sooner)

but what I wanted to add: if I'd spot Mike it will probably be a spot-ter/sniper combination.

@ TheFox, I'm hearing Mike's voice: "Piece of cake" brilliant.

&

@ LAHA, shoot him in the legs [...] and let him run [...]
Wow, there should be some really painfull things you'd do to Mike,
if you hated him.

Lately, I always get Mike inside the building of the Central SAM. Last time, I hit him with a flashbang (it takes away his ability to get interrupts that turn) then beat him to death with my mercs, after stealing his Comp-18 Spectra armor.

This is probebly old, but I can't remember. Is there anyway to recruit Mike?

I'm still pissed at him from JA1, when after a couple of missions he yells at me that he quits because I kept changing the team from mercs I had from the begining to the really cool, expensive ones. Then I get a chance to raise his price, but he refused. I did just fine without him, ofcourse, but I remembered this when I first met him in JA2, and after softening him up I gave MD a chance to finish him. He was happy Smile

That first encounter was random, with a patrol in some random sector. I had more trouble from a covered group of baddies than Mike. At one point I used a stun grenade on that troublesom cluster of baddies and Mike was in range and he dropped his rifle, but I was too far to exploit this. But he was exhusted and didn't do a thing except sitting there hyerventilating, and I just kept pounding his spectra vest with bullets till he collapsed. I then saved, and each merc on the team had the kill shot. MD gained a level in experience from killing Mike, so he had the honors in the end. Plus I like MD Smile

Ever since then I always met Mike in U-shaped military base in Alma. My mercs would surround the little court from the roof and just snipe everyone who came out. When too much got out, I used a LAW. Mike was always among the ones that got hit by a LAW right to the head, and taking shots from everywhere as he lay there on the cold, hard ground.

Can't believe I payed 25 grand for him in JA1!

No.

He shows up when the game hits a certain progress level. If you always progress the same way in every game he will always show up at the same spot. I used to always see him at one of the SAM sites.

Too bad Mike isnt recruitable, he could be just as sharpedge like Conrad and still make an effort to the game. Why taking such a cool Merc from the first JA game and then make him into a bad guy..
Somebody must have been fed up finding new bad guys in the making and then just picked up someone everyone likes. I hope no one does that to Len... Still poor Mike...

He's not really a bad guy, he's just been already paid for by the queen.

Heck, it might be interesting if a few MERCs or AIMs showed up fighting against you if you had never hired them or if they left because you pissed them off somehow. Yeah, Flo wouldn't be too scarey. But Shadow might be nasty during a night mission.

I think the point is that Mike IS a bad guy. He cares for nothing but the money, and he turns against you if you cant fork it up. If you check out Mike's info in the AIM alumni page, you'll see that he left AIM because they wouldn't authorise his continued pay increase, and he ended up sending them thretening mails from Arulco (supposedly Arulco Smile )

Every merc on the AIM roster is to a lesser or greater extent a "good guy". The orginazation has always set itself to helping out the poor and the opressed, and they're very picky about who they work with. All this stuff can be learned from all the JA games, if you pay close enough attention.

Mike is just a rotten person. It was a nice touch giving him a suprise (albiet short) appearance in JA2.

Still, wish I could make him switch sides, like when his window is popping up at the first encounter. He would be as rotten as would be, but still Mike is Mike, ya say he loves money, now at the point of meeting him Ive got tons of it so the price wouldnt be a problem. To bad he cant turn like Iggy or recrutable like Conrad, all in for the money...

I think, Mike would work for you, if you paid enough (you could have a nice 'auction' with the queen... "10k per day!" "15k!" "20k!" "25!!", Mike will always work for the best bidder)
His salary was 12k in JA1 (IIRC), so maybe 15k per day would be a nice sum. He isn't worth that much, but would be a great way to waste some of the money, many players have by the time, they meet him. If this was possible, there should also be a change in Prof.dat, so that almost everybody hates him so much, that you can't really put him into any squad ^^

I'll take Conrad and Iggy over Mike any day.

Conrad: "Iggy you are good"

Iggy: "I win this one!"
