Hi. I play vanilla JA2 Gold, expert and ironman difficulty. The enemy use some unfair advantage, he almost always hit me with any shitty weapon, on almost every location (often to head), but my best merc Ivan MARKSMANSHIP 97, with STEYR-AUG (sniper scope, laser sight) is not even comparable to magic skills of simple enemy soldiers holding bare MINI-14s.

For ex. my merc is on roof, the enemy is 25 boxes far away and shots me like a rabbit. So I

[goggled] you choose ironman and you ask for understanding and sympathy?

To answer your question, I suspect you shoot unaimed, meaning click and shoot. right click on the enemies until it show yellow circle, that's maximum aimed shot. Ivan's 97 MRK with Steyr from 25 tile away is enough to hit any enemies. But not if you shoot unaimed.

And drop the ironman style, will you. When you meet a bug you are so screeeeewed.

There isn't much you can do, tbh. I've played the campaign quite a lot (before 1.13) and you just learn to put up with it. I only played ironman a handful of times, I'm not that masochistic.

One way to look at it is like this: the enemy are pretty stupid, but they can kill you if you're not careful. It's kind of an equaliser.

Why didn't you play 1.13 this time? Did you just want to see the difference between vanilla and 1.13? If you keep a journal of differences you're noticing between the two it would be pretty interesting reading for the fans. Smile

Hope you have better luck soon. And maybe ironman isn't what you really want to be playing in this case. Ironman mode is designed to be frustrating.

Well my idea was to play JA2 just like good old JA1 without option to save during combat, it makes the game somehow more challenging, but not necessarily megalomaniac. I don

As far as changing the settings for the vanilla game, there isn't much to change beyond choosing your difficulty level when you start the game. That's one of the motivations for the 1.13 project.

Regarding an interesting challenge:
If you're looking for something pre-done, challenging and different may I suggest a look at "Night Ops" (check the "Other Campaigns" forum). Smile It's gotten a lot of excellent feedback.

Regarding 1.13
Are you playing with "Drop all" by any chance? Having a ton of stuff gets to be a drag. Try playing without "Drop all" and maybe try out one of the limited drop xml mods, like the "Standard Equipment" Off_Topic was working on.

You could also set Bobby Ray's inventory settings to something low for more challenge.

And, playing on "Novice" can actually be really damned hard. Wink

Novice of rare Bobby Ray make for very interesting games. Also satisfying for the thieves, as good equipment became much more sought-after.

Some of these days I would play such a game. Not soon, though. The limitation put on Heavy Weapons are too much.

Thanks for suggesting NO, I played it earlier even was able to launch and play it, but there were some issues with bugged central SAM Site and the virus so I skipped on 1.13.

I tried to install NO yesterday with all the patches and stuff but it didn

Best items from the beginning could really ruin game.

This is very true. Having the best gear at any stage of the game takes away from the challenge and makes it too easy.

Hope you get your NO install sorted out, take Lockie's advice and read OT's installation notes. Once it's running, look through the Night Ops forum in "Other campaigns". Quite a lot of praise and a great deal of humour, too. Try to avoid any spoilers, though.

PS: Lockie advised, in an earlier post, that the "fecal option" was amusing but, ultimately, irritating. Gorro managed to find a use for it, however, so it's really up to you. Once you've discovered this novel invention, that is... Wink
