Hey Tuisk,

When you have identified a mine with a blue flag, click on it and you get an option to defuse it. Better to use a high explosive Merc to do this.

merc with EXP about 50 can find mines, but very rarely defuse 'em. thats if you want to reuse those mines.

if you only want to get rid of them... just checked: marking mines with blue flags and then throwing a grenade does not work: it blows up blue flags nearby, but mines are left underground. so, if you, really, really want to clean a (city or SAM) sector of mines, train militia. train lots of them, and sooner or later they will step on every damn mine there is :diabolical:

Dunno about you guys but in my game mercs with 99 EXP don't detect most of the mines, so they pretty much step on them. What can be the reason?

low dex? Low wis? Idk my mercs always detect mines... then again my mercs all have high dex/wis cept for the ones i've hired. I know where all the mine spots are in the game so i stay clear of those spots.

I mainly use my maxed out 99/all IMP...And mostly play with lone IMP during the whole game. Dunno why, when walking in a minefield just nothing happens and one wrong step and kablouie->restart.
Could it be because of the night time or the high difficulty/ironman settings?

Do I have to put it in the hand slot or just have it in the inventory?

Level also plays a role in detecting mines.

You just need the detector in your inventory iirc.

i put a mine 100 % state on the ground, then i put a sig 550 98% full of tracer and a rifle lam and a scope 7 mounted on it at the same loc of this damn mine...
then the army attack, and they never fall in my trap.
i fell like the coyote vs bipbip.
what the h... all of them are 80 EXP or what?

One good use for landmines is to plug up any holes you cut in fences. Makes it a lot easier to defend SAM sites, etc., since the enemy can't use your shortcuts and will have to approach from one direction. Just make sure the landmine is flagged or else the enemy could set it off, thus making a larger hole in the fence. Smile

Yes but if I'm using it to plug a gap in a fence, I don't want bad guys blowing it up. As long as it's there and they know it's there, they are forced to come in through the front entrance. You can always set some unmarked mines at the front. Smile

@ cpt. t. winky, tt

cover that hole with a mortar - who cares for that fence, you're fighting a war - that is not a game for babies

If you want landmines to be effective at hurting enemies, use a merc with both high level and high explosives skill to plant them.

And flagging mines to deter the enemy from taking this or that route is a nice tactic.

By "effective", do you mean they inflict more damage or that they are less likely to be detected? I'm asking because there is a sector where Gus (equipped with a metal detector) places lots of blue flags, yet in the adjacent sector he can't seem to find any mines without causing an explosion. My guess is the latter were planted by experts, but I'm not sure if that would make them harder (or even impossible?) to detect.

He means harder to detect. However, I've got Red with explosives up to 100 and experience level of 9 and I can't remember that an enemy ever stepped on his mines.

I usualy play with Berry and he can find or place landmines.

I use landmines when I'm defending the sector with poor mercs and place the landmines where are narrow passages. And I must say that is very effective because enemies approaching in groups so one landmine can make quite a disaster for them

land mine need to be placed with a plan i.e. a clump of trees,a buildings cornor or some thing that looks like it may end up as cover.
or you can just spead loads of them all over but you need lots of them and it make moveing hard.

command detonated tnt can work wonders but geting the right amount at the right place in the hard bit.
doing it bind is even harder.

Yeah I usually go with remote detonators combined with mines. That's also a good way of using all the surplus hand grenades for nice chain explosions. Too bad they don't set off gas grenades.

You can use the XML-Editor to increase the gas grenades' volatility Wink
