Hello JA2 community!
I've been (and still am) working on a small mod for JA2:

[font:Arial Black]BMP
Beka's Mapping Project
[/font]

* for JA2 v1.13
* for all languages
* compatible with most popular mods
* in production since ~ JAN 2010
* status: BETA

As the name implies this mod is mostly about new maps and alterations of existing ones. Nearly all the maps of good ol' Arulco have changed in one way or another: Some of them can hardly be recognized as original vanilla maps, others just got polished a bit.

I pay lots of attention to the mapping and try to make the maps look like they could just as well be original JA2 maps.

Apart from the maps I've included some more features into my mod:

- new cities
- enlargement of existing cities (in the sectors as well as in the strategic map)
- militia can be trained in every town
- truck and hum-vee can now travel to all important locations (before some were inaccessible, e.g. d15)
- additional 5th sam site
- more minor features I won't address now

Gameplay change:

I've come up with a way to alter gameplay in a certain way: Gathering items such as weapons, armor or add-ons will be different in BMP because Bobby Ray will be available much later as in vanilla JA2; later in terms of gameplay and -progress. At the same time much more items can be found on enemies and within the maps.
Doesn't sound like a big deal at first but just think about it for one moment... remember what your usual Arulco-run looks like an imagine what it could be like when you need to rely on what items you can find and loot...

Here are some screenshots from BMP:

New Balime sector in L13 - This spa is the place where Arulcos high society spends their leasure time.

New Omerta sector in A8 - Buns has a feeling that this small facotry won't be producing anything in the near future.

New Town Excondite in L16 - Even Gasket can sense that these are not your usual civilians dwelling here.

What the... why does he show us the old map... wait a second... Aldea?...

This mod is still under development, but already in beta phase.

I am *still* looking for more beta testers!!!

If you like BMP so far and think it's an interesting project then volunteer and become a beta tester!

If you want to know more about BMP then just ask.

I do *not* use big maps.
But in the existing cities there are more buildings now and also some cities consist of more sectors than before thus making cities look & feel larger.

Keep going & good luck. Have you done any deep tileset changes? Do I recognise the mini militia map interface style at all?? Perhaps Smile

Nope, I only used the original ones. However, I'm doing my best to squeeze as much out of them as I can.

Originally this wasn't meant to be some kind of fancy feature. I just prefer it this way. But it was a very good observation from your side! :ok:

@all:
By the way: Although I've received some feedback to my call for help there's still room for more voluntary testers. If you've got some spare time left for your favorite game than just PM me.

I support this project. New singleplayer maps are always good.

Just curious. Smile

For several reasons:

1) I fear that an open beta would result in lots of ppl playing the mod but only few of them actually reporting anything back.
2) In a closed beta the team is smaller and I can always tell who's actively testing the mod. In a public beta you might know how many ppl downloaded the mod but you won't know how many of them are also testing it.
3) If there'd be a public beta version and a public 'final' version you can easily imagine that some ppl might be confused and accidentially mix them up or so... his won't happen if there's only one public version available.
4) Everyone who is interested can join the closed beta phase. I don't bar anyone from it! Everybody is welcome! :waving:

-> I think a closed beta is more efficient and comfortable than a public beta.
