Hey guys, got a few questions.
I'm a huge pack rat (Downtown residents of The Hub in FO1 have nightmares about me stashing stuff in their homes) when it comes to these types of games. So I'm trying to figure out how I can safely stash my loot and where. So far, some guys in the chat have educated me on how to open/close crates and how to stick gear in closed crates by dropping items on them.
So here we go. I'm running v1.13.3356, no mods.
1. Is this a guarantee that no one is going to come and steal my stuff? Do the crates need to be closed, or can they be open? I noticed open crates with items in them will appear on the Sector Inventory list, leading me to believe they are not safe.
2. Is there a way to close crates and lockers when they've still got junk in them? I've stashed two LBE gears and some duct tape in a crate in Drassen Airport, and I went to go get the duct tape out. I couldn't figure out a way to close the crate with the two LBE gears still in it. Ctrl-clicking, right clicking, etc all didn't work. Is this just not possible?
Thanks!

Hello Whacker and welcome to the Pit.
Ah, a fellow cyber messy
Basically there are two instances in which stuff 'disappears'.
1) Loaded guns are often picked up by militia / enemy during fights, so unload all weapons.
2) If a sector is reconquered by the enemy and they leave a garrison there, they will slowly 'clear' the sector and 'confiscate' your illegal weapons cache (meaning it will simply disappear).
So the best way to secure your stuff is to keep it in sectors you intend to hold permanently or where no enemy passes through. If you really want to be on the safe side, store your stuff *in* the mines (i.e. the underground sectors), but that is really tedious and not recommended in 1.13 with drop all.
Personally, I prefer the central SAM site as my depot, but I play smeagols WF maps, where the SAM site *IS* a fortress and can easily be held by 2 cheap mercs against full 32+ attackteams at day without resorting to lame tactics.
I believe additionally using crates as storage isn't necessary, I can't remember an instance of stolen loot that couldn't be traced back to one of the cases mentioned above.
Oh, before I forget. Have a look at the hot keys, they'll really speed up inventory management so you can spend more time on important matters like comparing stats and deciding what to use instead of just sorting stuff for hours.

there are - ever taken a place which wouldn't be fortified asap and wanted to keep that loot?
1. close that crate/locker/whatever - let's call it a container
2. the loot needs to be put on the same place where your CLOSED container is (needs training - me gotz mad when starting to do that)
3. => in sector-inventories no of items will show a rapid decrease (especially if you use no longer needed backpacks to 'bundle' the loot)
4. if you open that container you have to put it all back - keep that in mind and store the ammo somewhere else :devilaugh:
btw, i hate messy sectors
@ lockie:
i hope you somehow managed to get it back :scan:
