Hello.

I have run into a problem with v1.13 when I tried to install the woodland interface replacement and sometimes it crashes when I do certain stuff (looking into a merc's item during combat and ect) and now I must reinstall the whole game appearently as uninstalling the interface didn't help. Sad

But it was nearly a year ago since I installed JA2 + v1.13 and im not sure if it has been updated ever since. I looked around the forums, but im not too certain which are the 'latest'... Any help would be outmost appreciated. Smile

Items of interest are:

Latest version / SVN of v1.13 mod

Instruments of Violence (IoV)

v1.13 Interfaces mod

HAM mod

The current items I use are:

v1.13 mod - 3358 - SVN@1220
IoV 915
v1.13 Interfaces 2.0.0.0 (appearently broken for me)

Last time I looked, the IoV custom .exe is mandatory for current IoV, your 915 may be the last one that is partially compatible with v1.13. Changes to v1.13 may also lead to compatibility problems.

Depending on how you define current, look for Tais' Single Click Installers (SCI)'s for current v1.13.

Unfortunately, I do not think anyone is updating the interface mods, making an obsolete interface graphic archive as the most likely cause for your crashes.

EDIT: latest public HAM version has been in v1.13 for some time now, you just need to enable it (component by component) in the .ini.

Slayer9112: The crashes are definitly because of outdated interface graphics that are not compatible with the latest 1.13 version.

Here's an interesting post from Kris about his startup experience:
http://gamasutra.com/blogs/KrisMorness/20101103/5503/Lessons_Learned_Game_Startup_in_Progress.php

The tunnel vision of some of the hardcore JA2 fans here is both amusing and depressing. Apparently it's not enough for turn based tactical games to prove unprofitable many times, tank their studios, and break up marriages. The hardcore fans want the developers to come back years later and work for free! Surprised

And your point is ... ?

No ,really , what point are you trying to whack us over the head with ?
As I recall , Kris was asked for asked for any memories/help he might want to contribute to help the coders/modders .
He had a game to publicise/test , so naturally he was more interested in that . Nobody threatened to kidnap his family if he didn't come up with the goods to help us .
Fine .

My point was simply that early on Kris's messages were clear about not having time to devote to unpaid development on a 10 year old game - but many of the replies didn't seem to catch on. I wasn't the only one that noticed, either. A lot of JA2 fans seem to have some angst that no developer has taken up the turn based tactical banner. I guess I just expected some of them to read about the low sales figures, broken marriages and 100 hour work weeks and show some understanding. It's a rare enough thing that game developers post on fan forums without rude fans scaring them away again!

I did find it amusing that Kris was trying to find a middle ground between his current project and JA2 though. I can totally see a tower defense barracks that hires AIM assets. Smile

Also I just wanted to post an update since I found his blog post very interesting.

I'm sure some of the modders here have similar sentiments , but do we care ? No , I have paid my money ( several times ) for this superb game , I understand the dev's have moved on to 3D, FPS etc. , but this game is OUR game , we mod and update as much as possible thanks to dedicated and talented guys with way more free time than sense . Surely some small game dev's can actually understand that there is a small but dedicated market for this type of game or even UFO Enemy Unknown game . They have more ability to make you relish the challenge than 99% of games thrown out these days . I enjoy the Fallout series ( newer ones )but keep coming back to JA .
Anyways , rant over , and who was rude to Kriss ? I can't recall any such posts .
BTW , welcome to our friendly forum at the Pit ! Smile

LtChambers' post is unrelated to the thread and should be moved somewhere else, any suggestions where to? Everyone is entitled to an opinion, however a post should be somewhat in context to where it was posted.

An idea would be for him to re-post in the appropriate forum thread , then I can delete this stuff from here . I'll give it a day , then delete .
Thanks D .

Something is very wonky with the forum or my browser (Firefox). My post keeps oscillating between Kris Morness's thread in the OT forum (where I posted it!) and this thread (which I have open in another tab). At first I saw it in the intended thread, and then after refreshing it showed up in this thread, and then a bit later it showed up in the proper thread again. Now it's back to this thead.
