I am new to the game and was wondering if Optimist attitude helps when training milita? I have tried to get this several times but always end up with Normal Sad

Can someone tell me if it does or does not help so I can stop wasting my time.

Stop wasting your time.

AFAIK, you cannot get an attitude of Optimist. If you somehow could, it will not help to train militia. I checked the source code and the only reference to this value is when you check your mercs morale. Optimistic increases morale modifiers, making bad events and good events better.

One more question about the IMP quiz, can you skip questions? Only answer the question that you want to so you get the skills and personality you want.

Also does anyone realy care what their personality is other than those that want physco?

Will your merc have more sayings as a coward or some other personality?

No you can't skip questions, however, (AFAIK)you can pick a neutral answer that has no direct influence on the character of your IMP. For example the one question that has these answers;

1. A brand new computer with the manual missing (Electronica trait)

2. Slice 'n dice knife set (knifing trait)

3. A nightvision goggle with manual (nightops trait)

4. Bob the storemanager rolled in ducttape, but otherwise unharmed (neutral answer)

I know those 4 answers aren't the exact answers/quotes, but you should be able to catch my drift.

What do you mean you can't get the attitude of optimist?I got it,many times!
There's always,or at least so it looks to me,some hazard element involved in the IMP construction...cause you can answer the questions perfectly,to get the skills you want,and you sometimes get the "wrong" result.Oh,nothing a few tries won't do...
And yes,you can skip the questions(not all the times),looks like if you pres the "next" button several times ,after you press the "previous",you can go right to the one that interests you.Not sure about the newest versions,but it worked in 1.03.Didn't use it,though.

Well, I never have...I've only had psycho, loner or normal. Never optimist, never aggressive. I suppose I could have had "coward" if I picked certain answers, but I can't bring myself to pick them Smile

The full list of possible personalities and attitudes is:
typedef enum
{
	NO_PERSONALITYTRAIT = 0,
	HEAT_INTOLERANT,
	NERVOUS,
	CLAUSTROPHOBIC,
	NONSWIMMER,
	FEAR_OF_INSECTS,
	FORGETFUL,
	PSYCHO
} PersonalityTrait;

#define NERVOUS_RADIUS 10

typedef enum
{
	ATT_NORMAL = 0,
	ATT_FRIENDLY,
	ATT_LONER,
	ATT_OPTIMIST,
	ATT_PESSIMIST,
	ATT_AGGRESSIVE,
	ATT_ARROGANT,
	ATT_BIG_SHOT,
	ATT_ASSHOLE,
	ATT_COWARD,
	NUM_ATTITUDES
} Attitudes;
So what questions/answers give you optimist then?

Incidentally, if you use ProEdit, you can see that your mercs and other NPCs have all kinds of different attitudes. For instance, Fox is a pessimist, Biff and Flo are cowards (no big surprise), Spider is friendly, Buns is a "big shot" and Gasket is an a**hole.

There are also IMP editors that allow you to skip the whole process. If you create you're IMP in this manner you can assign any personality traits, stats, and equipment you want. Once the novelty of the questionare wears off you might want to try this. It saves time and is exact.
If I'm remembering Patusco's Guide correctlty he even mentions which answers give you the Optimist trait. If you want to do it the questionare way I suggest you download Patusco's Guide (available through the Ja Galaxy link at the top of the page).
Just remember, even if you follow Patusco's method to the letter there is a good chance you won't get the traits you wish. The only sure way (without using an editor) is to do the quiz as many times as it takes to get you're desired IMP. There is a random element to the whole thing.

Thinking about those questions to get "optimist"-nothing in particular!Didn't even payed attention to this.Not sure it offers any difference from normal-'cause morale,at those number of hits would be sky high for the IMP char even if pessimistic.
Often got optimistic attitude by answering the questions the same way I answered before to get a friendly or normal.Hazard...But I can tell you for sure I answer the last question with "organising a last drunken blewout before...":cheers

Hi, im newby here and im sorry for resurrecting old topic, but I dont think in the gold version Optimism is present. I tried like a 20 times and all i get is frendly or normal. And apperently questions can be skipped by starting the quiz, ansvering random to all but the forelast. Then switching page to A.I.M. or somethig else and goin back to test. Answer the forelast question and u can go prev or next with no answers, all previous are cancelled and if u clik next on the last without answering the game crashes Razz . So i choose only answers that give optimism and skip others and i get normal. All skills work that way. And frendly too and psycho have been tested. So im my oppinion at least in 1.12 version there is no optimism...

Well... IMHO Gus Tarballs is NOT Optimist. In fact he is "Loner" so... you can't get Optimistic bonus at all. Wink

if by "my friendly merc" you mean your IMP, then you should know that IMP will do anything you tell him to regardless of personality (after all, it's supposed to be You)

"Friendly" means his attitude. Might be IMP, might be other Merc with attitude "friendly"

again, the only ones that won`t shoot innocent civilians by purpose are Mercs labeled "good guy" in Prof.dat

i dunno whether the IMP can become a "good guy" or not, as the IMP is not controlled through Prof.dat
Maybe you can edit htis value using jape savegame editor

@ExGANDI
Мани и тука е потоп и няма плаж още Razz Ама и тъпия форум ме излъга да си пиша името и ся се то излиза и няма как да го сменя нали Sad

And according to Freelancer JA2 site Gus Tarballs should be Optimistic unless it is wrong there. If not he, who is, i wanna try if he has more morale at start. Guess I am too lazy to try all to find out. I have allready given up trying to get optimistic and my IMP is gonna be Friendly Psycho with Auto Weapons and Stealth Razz Razz Razz Or maybe I'll dumb the Psycho dunno yet. Sounds fun though. Something like 'sorry for the mess i meant good....' HA HA Smile

Weird... I've just started a new game, filled out my IMP survey the same as always and, for the 1st time ever, it came up 'optimist.' I'm 1/2 way through my mission and I haven't noticed a damn inch of difference. It strikes me it's just that random thing that comes up & doesn't affct anything.

Speaking about morale irrelevance...And self confidence when taking the shot.
In my experience having the morale sky-high affects...the accuracy with firearms.
Just replayed Urban Chaos:it is not uncommon to hit 3 shots in a row with a pistol at range 25 if the merc is at maximum morale!

Oh,and speaking about evolution: I distinctly remember a friendly IMP char (girl)refusing to kill civilians in 1.03.
In 1.12 it's not the case.

When I order Ira to shoot a civilian she always refuses. She say; "I have other plans" but never does anything.

And the point is...?

Try this one: ask the friendly Raven to shoot a civilian-"that's not going to happen!"
Ask her to shoot Len.Idem.No,she doesn't like him.

Now ask her to shoot Dr.Q.
She splatters his brains with no hesitation!And no,she doesn't hate him!Or does she? Wink

No point, just commenting about our merc's not wanting to shoot a civilian when ordered to do so. I wonder what Raven has against Dr. Q.

The 'good guy' trait in Proedit decides whether a merc will shoot a civillian (or any non enemy). You probably already know that but I'm listing it again for the record.

That still doesn't explain why Raven won't shoot a civilian,but will execute Dr.Q or an IMP char with no hesitation.
She is not a good girl when she does that,is she? Wink

No, it doesn't. That's really weird. Perhaps it's buried in the source.

Are you sure this is always the case or could it be a glitch?

She did it in Wildfire.
Must be something related to problem solving. Very Happy
