SCI's are on hold and removed for the moment, only old versions are still up.
---------------------------------------------------------

Guess who's back!

I hereby announce a new form of SCI's that I will create from now on, in simple words this will mean SCI's without useless crap and silly changes but containing the very best of 1.13 and mods so thereby very unofficial.
This is mainly because of not only my but more people's dissatisfaction with some of the changes that have been taking place recently.

I am doing this purely to see how many people will pick up on this and like it, let's see what discussion this will bring up concerning the changes.

Changes:
- Deleted UB and Demo data, executables and other unused files
- Moved spooky back to the state before he got messed up (partially reverted silly svn revision)
- From now on these SCI's will only contain changes that will enhance 1.13 instead of damage it
- These SCI's contain only AIMNAS as default data as it's the de facto standard to play 1.13 in my opinion

This will mean that the packages will be a lot smaller (over 70MB smaller) and are made for one purpose, play 1.13 with all the good stuff and without having to wait for the downloading/extraction of crap you wont be using anyway.

Instructions:
- download SCI package
- grab a clean ja2 install
- extract SCI over the ja2 install (always choose to overwrite when asked)
- run ja2.exe
- play!

Download location: http://kermi.pp.fi/JA_2/v1.13_Releases/Unofficial/English/tais/

Current version: [color:#009900]SCI_113tais_r5398_AIMNASv27.7z

Previous version: [color:#CC0000]SCI_113tais_r5354_AIMNASv27.7z

Info:
- If you run into trouble with these SCI's ask in this thread or come to IRC, these packages are very unofficial.
- I archived the SCI's with 7-Zip version 9.20, if you run into trouble extracting you're probably not using 7-Zip to extract it.
- This is work in progress
- You cannot install multiple SCI's over eachother
- The SCI's contain AIMNAS, this however does not mean you can just slap a new AIMNAS update over my SCI's as I am using another way to install it
- AIMNAS bigmaps are the default, no way to turn em off or delete them without having knowledge of 1.13 internals

Nothing bad with AIMNAS, we all love it for what it is, but will there be svns and builds without AIMNAS as well or are you the wrong guy to ask this? Like, if I want to play with the newest features, but don't want to include AIMNAS, where to go then?

You're not forced into playing with AIMNAS (right?). Ja2.ini is your friend.

Hello, I'm downloading right now. I don't suppose AIMNAS (ER or v21) have been tested with this? Ought to work all right? Sorry for the dumb questions, I'm looking to use AIMNAS for the first time, so don't know what it might conflict with.

Nope times have changed so no more vanilla releases and no way to just switch over to vanilla (not using VFS and overwriting Data-1.13 to reduce the amount of redundant files and thereby filesize)
So I guess you are stuck with SVN if you dont want AIMNAS

@Colibri: there are older SCI's for v20 and ER, you might get some weird errors when you slap smeag's package over this SCI
This will soon contain AIMNAS v27 by default though so have patience

Razz

I will have patience (though, AIMNAS v27 doesn't have a release date estimate yet, if I understand correctly). I really appreciate the SCIs, by the way. It's just that I'm very excited about both AIMNAS and the next UC 1.13, but both seem to be between major stable releases (v27 (?) and v4.xx, respectively), so I want to give at least one a spin.

For the time being, in case anyone else is itchy like me, it looks like I had to copy over all the .slf files from another install into my Data folder to get it to run (though, correct me if I'm wrong, that sounds more like a problem with my JA2 Gold install than any of the mods) as well as copy (but not replace) data from the Tilecache folder from Vanilla to the other two.

My IMP had some strange equipment placement (HW specialist had a grenade launcher in a pistol mag slot on his vest and there're items in the backpack, but no backpack), but nothing game breaking thus far.

So long as you wouldn't consider it too cluttery or off topic, I'll post anything else here that I might have to fix/work around as I go along. For anybody else following, I'm using a GOG version of JA2 Gold, with Tais' r5354, and AIMNAS v21 (so I can play a full campaign, fingers crossed).

Well for one the breakage of Spooky, luckily AIMNAS has spooky implemented like he's supposed to be so not a lot of work required on that part
I am also thinking about adding a few features to the exe that because of unknown reasons never made it into 1.13

@Colobri: AIMNAS v27 was released yesterday, I will release a new SCI soonish that will contain v27

Oh, very cool. Completely missed the anouncement. Thanks for the update.

For the record, the setup I mentioned has worked like a charm since the quick change I mentioned(as I assume it'll be a while before it's possible to play a full campaign in AIMNAS).

I would be cool with AIMNAS if not for unfinished bigger maps. And for now i can't even figure it out which ones are finished.

Tried overwriting big maps with the old ones but I guess I missed something major since it just kept crashing and screwing up. Oh well. A year or two of not playing JA2, just waiting for development to... develop... is probably good for you.

Any solution to the massive slowing problem?

I slapped the Current version: SCI_113tais_r5354_AIMNASv27.7z on a fresh JA2 copy, and it looks great. However, the game starts to slow down enormously like in the first enemy turn, which makes the game unplayable. I turned the Highspeed timer to TRUE from the Ja2.ini, and after that turned on the faster enemy turns from the in-game options. This indeed speeded up the enemy turns, but the enemy turn still takes like 1.5 - 3 times more time than what it used to take (playing JA2 last fall).
Also with this option, the game sometimes creates these strange/cool/annoying John Woo slowdown effects while enemy is running, shooting etc. showing how the bullets flying slowly in the air...

I tried to look up something from the JA2_options.ini, and changed the enemyturnspeeds from 0.3 to 1.0 , for trying to "normalize" the turn speed, but I think it had no effect at all..

it could be that the slowdown happens, because the ja2.exe was compiled in vs 2008

i never noticed a slowdown with a vs 2005 compiled ja2.exe. I will build a new exe later so you can try it out.

edit: you can also download the ja2_*.exe from the official 1.13 svn gamedir and try that out. the exe was compiled 2 days ago with vs 2005.

SCI_113tais_r5354.7z contains an exe built in vs2010 and SCI_113tais_r5354_AIMNASv27.7z contains an exe built in vs2008.
I'll see if I can finally get vs2005 running on win7 x64 cause I've been having some trouble with that.

I did have some crashes which seem to be caused by memory leaks when I was playing around with a debug build of the map editor in vs2010, it was kinda random though, one moment it started like a charm, next run it just locked in a black screen at startup and eventually crashed, I saw some errors about access violations in the vs2010 debug console.

I can confirm, that executables of the map editor build with vs 2010 often crash on startup. No crashes for verions compiled with vs2005/2008.

For those who have performance problems (slowdowns) with the "ja2.exe", try the following exe file, which is compiled with VS 2005. Then post your results.

Okay I DLed the Rowa's .exe from the link above, but the game still slows down so it had no visible changes whatsoever according to a 10 minute quick test. I have tried to this exact same version Tais unofficial package on my Thinkpad laptop and on my old P4 PC, both using XP SP3.

I havent tried the 4870, but I didnt have any like this on last fall if I recall right.

My best tactic until now is to quicksave with Alt+S and then exit the game with Alt+X, confirming with Y and out I am. Once the game is restarted, I'm ready to go some more rounds, often long enough until the fight is over.

Is the unofficial AIMNAS version SCI NCTH supported?

I've been playing a bit and it seems to work fine with NCTH

Do these SCI also include flugente's 'Bombs can be armed in inventory' feature?

Thanks

Well, I have slowdowns in both tactical and strategical. Then again, my cripple of XP-PC may be too old for this. Not enough RAM. I have times when things go smooth and slick and animations are fluid and fast. Then again I have bullet time movement ala matrix where you can leave the pc alone for 10 to 15 minutes. But like I said before. One quicksave, program restart and reload and everything is back to normal.

No problem in my PC(i5,4G,ATI6650). Maybe I'm just a simple test, so don't meet.

But many players(from TBS) slowdowns in the strategy and tactical. When the slowdowns happen, program restart and reload and everything is back to normal. Sounds like the problem of resource or memory management.

Hi Colibri

I'm trying to do the same thing as you by combining Tais' r5354, and AIMNAS v21 and it seems to be working well.

Can you think of a way that it might be possible to include the new features of the AIMNAS v27 (arming bombs, collapsing weapons ect) with the maps and campaign of v21?

When i try to do it, (by using v27 as a base and copying in the 'maps', 'radarmaps' and 'NPCdata' from v21) my game crashes as the helicopter is about to drop my mercs on the starting map.

Sad

Thanks
