Yo Tais, I am playing SCI_113tais_r5398_AIMNASv27.7z on top of Gold, some immediate observations:

- The "zoom" animation is suuuper slow. When the red box appears for engaging sector enemies and when the game goes from the strategic map to the tactical map. The zoom used to be done in maybe a second or two and now it takes maybe 5-6 seconds. I am playing with no INI changes.

- When I Alt Tab to Windows XP and back into the game, the mouse cursor is stuck on the "grab items from the ground" icon. Switching to different mercs does not fix the problem. So far I have been exiting and re-entering the game to get my normal cursor behavior back. Not sure if that always happens, happened to me three times so far, well every time I did Alt Tab.

In which Revision did that happen? Do you know, you can also disable the zooming animation in the ja2_options.ini.

Do the mercs also walk backwards? Did you try tapping alt again once back in game? This does seem like the old problem of buttons missing the de-press state, though I don't think the alt is the modifier to pick items up, though it was ctrl.
Do check it though.

Yo RoWa, whatever SCI_113tais_r5398_AIMNASv27.7z uses, is there a 5398 revision? I really don't know, just took this from the file name. And I didn't know I can disable zooming, must be relatively new. However it should still work I feel, no idea why it is so much slower. By the way, the same happens with the laptop, both bringing it up and dismissing the laptop again.

Yo JMich, no walking backwards I believe, although I am not super sure, once I couldn't shoot anymore, I exited the game. And I just did Alt Tab and it worked fine, so it doesn't always happen.

Yo Tais, zooming is definitely different behavior from a few months ago.

Yo Gambigobilla, It is possible pressed "ctrl + alt + tab".

Yo RoWa, What's the INI setting called to turn off zooming? I searched for "zoom" and "anim", nothing. I also looked at the very bottom of the INI, only zombies there.

Yo RoWa and Tais, Is it possible that the NCTH indicator is not always displaying the CTH accurately? I seem to have a better chance of hitting with full aim clicks than with the smallest circle the NCTH shows. For example with two aim clicks I get the smallest circle, additional aim clicks do not reduce the size of the circle, because my soldier kind of sucks. However it seems that if I go to max aim clicks, the bullets fly closer to the target and I hit more frequently compared to stoping at the smallest possible NCTH circle.

Yo Sam, The parameter is DISABLE_STRATEGIC_TRANSITION, thank you for pointing me in the right direction. However DISABLE_STRATEGIC_TRANSITION does not affect the laptop and also not the red dialog box for engaging enemies. It seems DISABLE_STRATEGIC_TRANSITION only affects the zoom from strategic to tactical, which is instantaneous, just a flash and you are in tactical.

Okay, the latest SCI now runs smoothly due to the hotfixes, but I have some problems with the maps:

1) The minimap overview and the actual map does not match, they are two different maps. So it is kind of pain in the ass to navigate cos the minimap is lying.
2) I have now opened a massive amount of boxes, chests etc. in the new bigmaps (latest SCI with V27) and I have found NOTHING, nada. Only items discovered are from the enemies. I have wandered around Omerta and the nearby sectors filled with enemies, and after killing em I have searched for stuff, but really, nothing. I'd guess smeagol has put at least something to the boxes and safes around the first sector, N O T H I N G.

So any idea what's the problem? I just slapped the latest V27 SCI to a clean JA2 install and replaced the old exe with the new one, fixing finally the slowdown problem.

Nope. It's smeag's mod (at least the content in question) that makes it his decision if any version in any form is released or not.

Not if the worker goes on strike, which he probably won't. To be honest it is kind of disrespectful of Smeagol to ask Tais to take his own SCI down, considering; Tais put the SCI up to be nice to him.

He is no monkey to be commanded what to do at any notice.

Yo, tao... need another correction in attitude?
I can arrange that if deemed neccessary... :/ it was and still is Tais' SCI and he decided to do it strictly AIMNAS. If Smeagol is asking him of removing the v27 version so that peace and silence returns to this forums again, it is Tais' and only HIS decision what to do with his SCI project. If he does so, I'm sure he will give reasons for that.

Neither you, me or anybody can manipulate Tais in this, so stop spinning conspiracy theories about Smeagol commanding someone to do his bidding! Such claims are getting more ridiculous by the minute. Also, if you think SCI is easily done, then start one yourself! Nobody stops you from doing so...

:compcuppa:
But enough of this. Behave yourself, everybody. Personal hard feelings won't complete a project, nor will they hunt down bugs or contribute to anything but trouble. We don't need that. Tao, you have your own project and I'd like to see you working on this more instead of going for smeag until you're done. See what you can achieve for the fans of small maps.

If there's these odd features (e.g no items in maps), it should be mentioned somewhere clearly to avoid the confusion. I have been reading this forum again like for the past 1,5 months and I have not encountered any notices that there's no items in BigMaps.

All respect to smeagol for his work, but now I see why ppl want to have different maps. I think the BigMaps are kinda cool on the other hand.

First:

Text is hard to decipher linguistically due to the fact that tone is severely inhibited. We perceive a lot of things based on our own perceptions when reading text. I know that it is Tais' SCI.
Tais took some time off and his SCIs just so happen to be the best.

This is probably 1.13 and not AIMNAS related. Can someone please trace the code in the attached save game? RoWa, help?? I used SCI_113tais_r5398_AIMNASv27.7z on Gold on XP on an IBM T23.

The 5 enemy soldiers at the gate haven't moved in over 30 turns. I hit them with a 40mm HE in the beginning of the encounter. Since then they have been standing there, looking away from the gate, and not moved or turned, nothing.

What is the worst, they use up *A LOT* of the computer turn time, I mean over a minute easy. This is with default INI, which has the computer turn speed up enabled I believe.

http://jaggedalliance2.pbworks.com/w/file/fetch/55448065/SaveGame04.zip

Yo guys, here is some preliminary play test feedback.

- After talking to Fatima you are "teleported" into the underground rebel base. I had a team of 6 mercs, 2 of whom were positioned on the outside of the rebel base in an area that looks like dirt. These two can walk to the border of the map but are not allowed to exit there, effectively trapping them there.
- So far none of the maps had any map placed items. I checked all of Omerta and Drassen and the SAM site East of Drassen. Not a single item anywhere on the maps. This has been addressed above, I figured it was due to work in progress, thanks! I really like the maps Smeagol, you are the best!
- There seems to be no map border to place your mercs when entering from C14 to C13
- Items I don't know: "% Compact Binoculars" and "Binocular Lenses". I can't attach one to the other. The "% Compact Binoculars" seem to be in the weapon category. (I probably should read some notes about the game, if someone could please point me at them?)
- I am test playing on Expert and it is not uncommon to get 64 enemies on a map which includes pulling in reinforcements from neighboring sectors. Even though the maps are large, the enemies tend to here the shooting and bunch up in large groups, feels more like playing on Insane.
- The expert starting money was $100,000, which feels a little much, not super sure though if this is due to the test status of the game.

Yo Sam, thanks for the laptop transition help, will take a look.

Edit: DISABLE_LAPTOP_TRANSITION made the laptop appear instantly. However the red box you get to the left over your merc roster when entering an enemy sector is still super slow. Something changed the "zoom" behavior and made it much, much slower. In the past, when you heard the "woosh" sound, by the end the sound was done, the animation was finished. Now it takes 3-5 times longer.

This is probably 1.13 related and not AIMNAS. Moving your mouse over the sector inventory is painfully slow. The mouse pointer gets "captured" by an item, probably to bring up the tooltip, then the mouse pointer "jumps" over several items to catch up with the user input.

I like the management buttons on top of the sector inventory. Whoever added these good job! Can you please add a button for sell all as well. I belive it is Shift+Ctrl+S or something like that.

Enemy turns are much slower. Not sure if this is big maps or 64 enemies or 1.13 code. It takes 10-15 minutes for the computer to finish a turn (with speed up settings). I really need to find something to do while the computer plays with itself. Maybe I can go surfing or something, come back, do my turn, and catch another wave.

Scroll. Also, this has been addressed in a more elegant fashion, but there's clearly no point releasing AIMNAS related work atm.

Raise the binoculars like guns and throw the lenses away, it's a limitation of the game that guns need to have ammo.

That's likely to be suboptomal functions with the added mass of items emphasizing the effect. Commenting out the highlighting function really helps in sector inventory, but I haven't found an equivalent function for the strategic/merc inventory to make a proper setting of it.

Yo Smeagol and Team, What's the benefit of night vision gear? Top pic shows Bull with no head gear. Bottom pic he put on NVG I. I like the tunnel vision of NVG in Smeagol's mod, but it should at least extend the vision by one tile, or did I get confused?

Thanks for the answers DP, you are awesome as always!!

What's the deal with lockie and Tao? Lockie is a nice guy, well given the circumstances of being Scottish, hihihi, so I assume Tao is doing something? Reminds me a little of Scorpi when he had a death wish, which was promptly fulfilled, hehe...

As far as I know only Typ A night vision goggles and not all gasmasks are shown as facegear(or was it type B?). Also some problems with the sungoggles as far as I remember. Anyway, there seems to be a problem with that, I can second that. But give the man time to fix that, he already has a long to-do list.

Some more play test feedback:

- Can't attach a rag to a bottle of alcohol, not sure if this is mod specific or an oversight.

- The game becomes somewhat unplayable with 64 enemies in the sector. Once the enemies are swarming, when I tell my soldier to run, I can see every single frame of the animation. This is too slow to be do-able. In the past this was slow, but not as bad. Not sure what changed. I tried to reduce MAX_NUMBER_ENEMIES_IN_TACTICAL but then the game won't load my save games. I am afraid this is probably the end of my playtesting, and I really liked playing again.
