Haven't received all that many contributions, so I wanted to post it in here too Smile

I know you guys got it in you ^^

We have various locations that are going to be in the game like Gas Stations, Bars, Arms Dealers and Hospitals and we thought it could be fun to get some inspiration and input from the community on the types of dialogue a player could encounter, when being in these areas. More specifically we

Not to be nasty or anything but the prize really sucks you know? Come on, I don't want it but I'm sure you could offer some nicer things for fans - you are asking them to do some of your work for you here.

Edit: Without adding to your costs, you could offer, for example, a free alpha slot to winner if they're on a digital tier, or a signed copy of the box if they're on a physical tier... something a bit creative to show a bit of appreciation

Alrighty then!

- Attractive (female) doctor, nurse or merc with medical background: "Alright, the first one who cracks a line about "sexual healing" is gonna become a victim of grave malpractice!"
- other NPC/merc: "Aaawww, killjoy!

I'd quite like if there were allusions to other games and movies and/or quotes from them.

Like Dirty Harry's "But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?"

Or a bar where they play poker like in every good (spaghetti-)Western (e.g. For a Few Dollars More)

Stuff like this.

Of course, and I'm not. But they did seem to suggest on FB that they didn't get as many entries as they would like. They're moving from the crowdfunding phase to one of sustaining interest and they could do more with this initiative without adding to their costs, and it's the least fans deserve.

Actually I didn't look at it as "asking the fans to do some of our work"

I thought, We're giving the fans an opportunity to influence the game and get some of their creative content in the game.

If I was a fan of a game and they gave me this option I would be happy to at least have the choice to be part of the game.

You may be right that we could have spiced up the prize a bit more, I thought getting your own content in the game would be enough...guess not.

Will of course take in the feedback we get and use it to make upcoming competitions/votes ect. better and maybe revise what we let the fans influence.

1. Most of the people here already signed up for KS and have to ready up their lines for enemies/mercs when you send out the final pledge poll.
2. We went through the one-liner competition already, that one had prizes, people probably expect a similar competition.
3. It's kinda hard to write dialogue between fictitious characters without a plot. We heard there are changes to the background already, so...

I think a better idea would be to have a more specific competition. And give the "players" a bit of meat on it. Like:

"Ivan meets an old Red Army major in an abandoned base. Major is a nutcase, thinks he's invaded and conquered USA. Write a 5 lines dialogue".

Or something less political, but WITH a story background. We need to get the "feel" of the main story, otherwise 99% of the content would be waste of ink and inspiration. I wouldn't mind writing dialogues and I am pretty sure I could even come up with something a bit funny, but I need to know the setup before I start.

When I make my own mods I first sketch out the main background story (location). Then I sketch the AIM secondary plot (misison trigger). And then I sketch the merc bios placing them in the new setup.

Only after these three essential pillars I start to play around with dialogue because now I have a context to fit it in.

1: True, but we're not really talking one-liners here. Could be a one-liner reply I guess, but can also be a full conversation.

2: We did, but in my opinion this goes a bit deeper than just a one-liner...and we have a prize..just not a direct $ prize related to the KS, but yeah you're probably right that people expect something similar.

3: We may have expected too much from people here...You're right that the plot changes a bit, which is also why we chose locations where almost anything can happen, leaving it open to people's imagination what can take place at these locations. But, You're probably right that we would get more contributions if we're a lot more specific and "add more meat to the bone".

We made this competition to enable the fans to influence the game a bit and to get some inspiration (You can never get too much). If we had chosen something very specific we would only get answers to that specific situation.

It's good to talk about this though, so we get it right the next time Smile

It's ok, the idea has the right spirit but it's so early in the project that you'd be forced to create a contextless dialogue that somehow also can fit into any setting without having any setting. The only things I could think of were some of the random easter eggs in Fallout which were movie lines with Fallout flavor.

About drumming up viral support and enthusiasm though, I really like what Star Citizen folks are doing. Those b****ds somehow managed to make me part with even more money a couple weeks ago, and without being too 'pay to win' I wonder if some of that could be translated to JAF. There seemed to be some really good response to the merc skins/outfits and they came very late in the KS campaign, so maybe there could be a way for latecomers to acquire them as $$ add-ons to slacker packages
