I don't know if this is a bug, but kind of relevant. The new cover system that Capt. Moore did? Well, if one is playing deathmatch, it is possible, at times, to see your opponents movement. Maybe this could be stripped from the multiplayer version of Jagged Alliance 2?

The display cover checks if the other merc has been seen this round or is currently seen (remnants of old code).

in "Tactical/DisplayCover.cpp"
goto CalculateCoverForSoldier
remove "SEEN_THIS_TURN" statements inside the "if"
check if only using "SEEN_CURRENTLY" works

i'm using 1.5 mp version and build, well i don't really know... sorry not that at home in all this. (where can i check it? when i start the game it does say RELEASE v1.13.MPV1.5 BUILD 09.11.01)

this comes up after i start the 1.5 exe. the game works though, but sometimes crashes to desktop. don't know if it's related.
i have already tried updating the game dir, the 1.13 data folder and the options.ini file alone, but had no effect. i found a link somewhere on the forum with a resorted ini at

but that didn't help either

The Data-1.13\ja2_options.ini you are using is too new for the MP v1.5.
You should get the latest official 1.13 Release EXE (which also contains MP v1.5). Then game should start fine without any errors.

Take a look in the Release Thread, or download latest exe directly from here:

Also single player, otherwise its allows cheating in single player too (and is in fact unnecessary).

Though the change has to be tested first if it even works.

thanks a bunch for the response.
i downloaded the exe and now it seems to be working if I just play the game by opening ja2.exe. if I open JA2_MP_EN_v1.5.exe it still gives the same errors.

can i gather from what you said that the SVN tortoise install instructions for 1.13 that I followed give me a too new version for the 1.5 multiplayer?
if so, is it possible to download a correct ini file somewhere, or can i just ignore that ini file and enjoy multiplaying ?

edit: it seems to work just finished a game, but the second one got stuck when AI interrupted. that has happened before, too. well, at least we were able to finish a game, and with explosives even Cool . great stuff!

edit again: thanks so much for the alt+E hint. best game ever made even better!

if the AI gets stuck, the server has to press ALT + E to skip the enemies turn and game can continue.

i play co op ( i have jagged alliance 2 gold + 1,13 (3111) + 1,5 MP mod) with my friend on lan but we cant compress time , tactical map is visible, i dont understand i was expecting more. someone with more experience pls write PM.

I've encountered a funny little bug while testing the multiplayer today for the first time. It has a very alpha-state feel, but it's loads of fun nonetheless. Great work guys! Smile

But, the bug. I've been hosting a co-op game. A printscreen of the situation:

An easy kill. Yeah. The bug is what happened just seconds before the shot: the opponent during his turn stepped to the river bank, took out a knife, stabbed the ground before him - and like through some kind of bizarre voodoo trick, poor Lynx there took the damage. Amusing and perhaps evening the chances (Very Happy), but a bit unrealistic. Razz

I've now remembered there was another bug later, during another game. I've picked a map, started the game, we entered the tactical screen and only after a few minutes we discovered that we're playing different maps. Very Happy I've picked Alma H13, while the client was seeing default Omerta. He saw no enemies and was puzzled when he got a few phantom shots from the soldiers on my map.

Hi! Here's a list of multiplayer bugs I've encountered so far.
Most of these are probably well-known, and a great deal of them are related to the undeveloped item sync. I hope someone with more programming expertise is working on these already, but I intend to take a look at these myself, too.

- Items&inventory are not synced:
Only local client sees "correct" equipment on mercs. Dropped items are pickable to all clients, but removed from the tile only locally. Items dropped upon death of a merc include default equipment, as seen on other clients, whether it is purchased or not. Stealing (Hth) brings up correct inventory of the target, but removes items from the inventory only locally (target still has the equipment as seen by other clients, including target's client)
- Planted mines are always visible to clients other than the planter.
- Hand to hand and knifing doesn't work as expected if the merch in HtH has equipment other than default. If the assailant has weapons from BR (not yet checked if it matters if they have been ever wielded) the other client interprets the HtH attack as a gunshot. As a result, damage calculation for HtH is broken.
-* Explosions, and stuff related to HandleArmedObjectImpact in physics.cpp are not completely synced:
Only local explosions have animation and full effects, other clients receive only the damage and smoke/gas effects; light emitters are definitely not working.

*Ok, edit: I got the visual explosion sync working; I wrote a new function in place of HandleArmedObjectImpact, to be called by recieveGRENADERESULT to update thrown weapons from clients. This allows us to locally create the light effects and visual&soundFX stuff, while the actual damage is still handled by the damage dealing client like before. It's a bit ugly solution, but enables the use of flares and breaklights and such, for now. I think I'll be sending files to RoWa once I test my code a bit more.

Thanks for swiftly pointing out that I should use the development source as a base! As it happens, I was using the official source.
Luckily porting the changes shouldn't be a problem. And the bugs I fixed from the official code still manifest themselves in the development version - unsynchronized grenades and flares and the BR crash when ordering stuff to places without map coordinates (ie. anywhere but Drassen or Meduna).
The removing of shipping costs in MP games, discussed in another thread, should probably be an externalized option if included?

Please merge your bugfixes in the development code and then send me a diff.

@ShippmentCosts: Add a new entry in the ja2_mp.ini. No need to put that as an option in the HOST screen (because no free space). I will rework the HOST screen later then we can also place it there. But you should sync the Shippment Costs property (TRUE/FALSE) when a client connects. Just add a new variable to the struct. Should be straight forward like the other sync values from the HOST options.

looks to me like a faulty install.
in early 2011 we start a beta test for the upcoming release of 1.13 in may 2011. we need beta testers for single and also multiplayer. if you want to join register in the spring 2011 release thread.

Use an older (more stable) installation. A lot of the features in your install are experimental.

When I go to host a game, I get this message:

server failed to start terminating
initiating ranknet server

It repeats endlessly.

I had just connected 5 minutes before.

So we got to finally test out the Multiplayer Modus of 1.13.

We played only Deathmatch.

So Far:

4870, so far only 1 Game
- No Bugs, but only 1 Game
- Sadly no new Mercs (JA1 JADG) I'll try out to separately install the Old Mercs Mod.

6068_on_GameDir_1670(, a couple of Games
- I hear very often a sound of my opponents Mercs falling down, but they are running normally.
- Merc Animations aren't sync, couple of times my Mercs lying on the ground for my opponent, but they where just walking.
- I stole an Weapon, but my opponent had his weapon still in his inventory. He could use his weapon but I could see the weapon lying on the ground.
- Game Freezes during interruption 2 times.
Conclusion: 6068 Unplayable!

6116_on_GameDir_1678, tried about 6 times on 2 PC (Win7 and Win8)
- MP cannot be hosted!!! If you try to Host a MP game, screen turns black, after a Minute Music stopps and you have to call the task manager to close the game.
Conclusion: 6116 Unplayable!

@4870: sure, that is the most stable version also in a multiplayer game. this version also has the bug with the enemy interrupt problem. if the turnbar dies not move on an enemy interrupt the server has to press alt + e and then you can continue to play.

@latest unstable version: i haven't tried the multiplay in the latest versions. if it does not run I have to fix it. once that is fixed it should be nearly as stable as the 4870 version, but including all the new features and mercs.

Fixed in revision 6648. Multiplayer should now work again
