Hi.

I'm not a total tech neanderthal but fairly close. Looking through the various 1.13 and Straciatella forums and posts on Steam, the Bear Pit and Gog makes me not want to bother, but here's a last shot.

Is there a simple, easy and convenient way to just get this game working. I'm on an Asus S56CA laptop with Windows 8.1

Help? Incidentally I'm kicking myself for buying this on Steam instead of on Gog now with the recent money-back guarantee. I've been burned too many times lately trying to get old games via Steam only to find out it's a mess with Windows 8.1

I can't say for certain, but with the heavy modding you will want to do, I'd start by having it install into its own folder on your harddrive rather than the steam directory like all steamapps want.

once its there, test it and make sure it runs in that location. If it works, you can likely start modding it. Since you may do reinstalls, if it works you may want to make a second copy to 'play' and keep the original working directory as a backup.

I don't have a steam copy, but I do have one I grabbed from an online disto and I keep a backup of the files on a second drive just for making 'fresh' installs to play with the unstable version or mods.

got the steam version to run 8.1 simply by renaming the intro movie.
