You're installing it wrong.

First, if you already have the gold version, you don't need to patch it.

Second, ignore the Stable 4870 release entirely if you want to use the Unstable release.

Third, either download via SVN and install an EXE from DepressivesBrot's release thread (http://www.bears-pit.com/board/ubbthreads.php/topics/311288/Depri_s_Builds_and_Packages_Ge.html#Post311288) or just download the SCI's from his Skydrive that include all the files and an executable.

Faala's stuff was redundant and now it's several hundred revisions out of date. But I recommend the SCI's just to make sure everything is done properly. Just unzip them over a fresh install of JA2 Gold, and play.

And for future reference, straight copy-pasting SVN data to another folder isn't always the way to go. In the future, try exporting it from the folder you're checking it out to and then copying the export folder so that you don't have to redownload the entire SVN with every update.
