It looks to me like some font issues. I guess you used russian fonts for russian version of mod and later translate it to english and change font or character encoding.

Note i have freshly installed gold version of JA2 and added your mod, soundfiles and update. No russian language mod was ever installed at any time.


Anyway it is not gamebraking or anything.


another little bug I noticed but I think this is the same in original game: militia fight much worse in tactical map than in strategy/map view. So it is not really worth to help them with your mercenaries.

But FONTS.SLF is old file from 2003? is it supposed to be same in the mod or different? You can see hashes of file on the printscreen.

Edit: Gold version uses english language yes. I am thinking if windows language keyboard settings or character set can be causing problems.

I put answer to your question in my previous post so we dont mess the forum too much with this little problem. I was planning to post again when I found any new bugs. So war I dint found any Smile. Only thing i miss is maybe some more guns, but there probably weren't any more in original JA1 either.
Not being able to buy guns from store is not a problem for me, I like living of the land and stealing guns from enemies. And as i remember there were no Bobby ray in original.

I would only suggest to the mods of forum to put this thread to special page among other mods. http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php/forums/20/1/JA2_Full_Mods_Sequels.html. So it will be more visible and maybe some other players will try it.

It feels quite refreshing to try non 1.13 version from time to time.

In original JA1 there were a few guns. We have not many guns in our mod now, but we are planning to add some guns later with an extended plot.

There is a problem: all members of our team leave in Russia, so we can't test this ourselves. Sad

Ah I've been trying to solve that problem in B2B_VM & JA2 HiRes... which both have a Russian exe but can't get Ivan's Cyrillic right and just prints a lot of AAA's. If you extract the 007 edt from original data open and save the AAA's go away but no Cyrillic appears; you just get a lot of weird text, a mix of Western lettering and punctuation except for the English words he actually uses which are fine.

new version of 007.EDT helped
Ivan now has appropriate text, at least on my computer.
There is new little problem now, as usual solving one bug cause some new problems, text on the top of the table with team members is all in Cyrillic.

btw I am using old XP sp3, english version.

My input language for keyboard is slovenian.If I change keyboard input language to english or russian nothing changes. Also running older version (JA21m.exe instead of JA21m.exe_v0.37) changes nothing.

Excuse me. Are you sure that the message is about this file? We have never had it and everything worked fine.

Maybe problem is in TILESETS\0\fl_weed.sti . If you haven't got this file in your game DATA folder you should try to reinstall the mod or to copy it from the archive with the game.

Have you installed it on a clean version of the JA2 without any other mods?

I played a fresh installation, a few sectors new and then an old SavedGame with vers. 0.45.

All is working fine.

But a question: What is new in vers. 0.45 compared to vers. 0.42 a few days ago?

@Fan Really, v0.42 might be a new beta, but when it was ready I had no time to prepare new installer and as a result made it as a patch. Then some bugs and mistakes in v0.42 were discovered and fixed and I made new beta with v0.45.

So, about differences between v0.42 and 0.45
- Enemies have less grenades.
- Santino's face is added.
- Some maps are corrected (B10, for instance, where you could see a map of C3)
- You can overjump handrails of bridges. (Use button with stairs in inventory panel like climbing on roofs etc)
- Bug with clocks after grenade explosion in the turn based mode is fixed.
- Enemies have less auto weapons.
- There is no dropping items after autoresolve of a battle, cause dropping items were too good and crushed game balance.
- On different difficulty levels enemies have the same ammunition.
- During the installation you can choose one of two versions of the interface color.

Installed the 0.45 and startet a new game:

- there seem to be more medkits as drops from dead enemies? But still in the early game (day3 18 sectors) so this could be coincidence.

- the file (merdedt?) which was provided for Ivan is missing in the 0.45. So when he speaks you see AA AAA AAAA AAAA.

- from the other thread: there is a colt, it is the colt 1911 Wink.

- in the other thread you mentioned 'chunk of steel to modify the guns' would be brought in the next patches. Haven't found any - are they implemented?

- Brenda and Jack still have no audible speeches. As the original music works fine I suppose I insatlled the files correctly.

Thx, with the original music it is getting near the old JA1 atmosphere, great.

That's strange. v0.45 doesn't include this file at all. Smile It's a part of The Mercs Speech archive.

I suppose that you used your old copy of The Mercs Speech (v2).
When I published v0.45 I updated The Merc Speech, so you can find this file there (I hope, I've checked now, but there could be mistake) or use this link:

Yes. I've found some, but didn't use yet. You should try to find them in cookers. About a half of them are with steel. Use "hand" cursor on them, like opening boxes.

There is no your mistake here. But there is some misunderstanding. Smile

Archive with music contains only music. And there is no sounds for Jack and Brenda yet. I have wrote, that now I know, how to extract them from JA1 and place into our modification. But Jack and Brenda have about 300(!) of audio files. I have to divide or combine some of them and rename all of them in a right way, then check that in general it works fine and only after that present them to you.

I am doing it nowadays, so I hope they'll be ready soon.

a bug or intention?
In sector B 6 I ever found a M 14.
Now there is lying a M 14 on the bottom but it is safed by what? I don't know.
Everybody who will take it is blowing up!

No bug? Not good! Sorry! Then it would be malicious IMO.

That M14 is rigged and u need a merc with good explosive skills to untrap it. Fidel is capable for sure, maybe others.

And I'm quite sure it was rigged in original JA1, too. Or was it a grenade on the ground and the M14 not?

The answer is very easy:
This project is not finished yet. We have a lot of work. We can't make everything in one moment, so there are some changes everywhere.

When I was drawing this map (B6), I placed M14 but didn't trapped it. I don't like trapped guns really and I think, I didn't know about the fact, that it must be trapped. But later Terapevt checked items on maps, added some new items and made some corrections, for example, he trapped this gun, because it was trapped in JA1.

Or you can try to find that the gun is trapped first. For this purpose use the most experienced merk. Then try to take it by Fidel. Finding and disabling of the traps are different actions.

I don't sure that this works with an item, but it works with trapped doors.

There is always a slight chance that even the most experienced and highest skilled merc fails. I always quicksave before untrapping Smile. Always a new mix after reloading.

Sorry, they don't find out that the gun is trapped.
They only take it, also my highest merc Spike.
In front of trapped chests and doors they stop and prove after my command.
Not after finding a gun, sorry. There is no chance, they take it, bumm.
I tried it three times.

Well, in 0.42 I got Fidel to untrap it. Maybe this has changed in 0.45?

@ArulcishLion - you mentioned that enemies don't drop anything in autoresolve. Is it possible that the nemy drops in generell have been reduced? Cause I'm getting seriosly short of ammo. And ammo has never been an issue before.

I tried to engage Mike after winning sector B 6, only to untrap the M 14.
He won't.
Now, one (!) sector later, he is in my party. And he untrapped this gun.

Is it possible that you made a mistake???
Why:
Is there any reason to place an item which can be untrapped by only one merc
who you are able to engage so much later normally (He is very cheap and
and you are playing EXPERIANCED or INSANE with a little money at the beginning.)?
I play NOVICE.

It's your mod, but:
If you "say" YES I shall change the map of sector B 6 (vers. 0.45) with such of
vers. 0.45. for my games. But I think you will change it.
I hope there are no more trapped items which can be untrapped only by Mike.

In this mod, like JA1, there might not be a lot of ammo. Yo should use it very careful. It was an issue in the early versions, then there were more bullets, now we have reduced them again.

For the last time in this question:

1. Ramirez let Fidel untrap this weapon in vers. 0.42; me too.
2. Fidel tried to untrap it in the vers. 0.45 three times without any effort; he don't remark
the trap.
3. Fidel has untrapped in my game in 36 sectors all traps and he won 1 level.
But he isn't able to untrap this M 14 in B 6.

4. I wrote that only Mike could untrap the weapon and I wrote " I hope there are no more
items which can be untrapped only by Mike".
I didn't write that this items are for Mike.

This map (B6) has been modified last time 9 May 2013 18h02m06s UTC, before v0.42 was presented.

You should change something in your game before another attempt to untrap, cause of the mechanism of prerandom. If you try and fail, then load and try one more time in absolutely similar situation, you'll fail again.

Try to make a shoot or just move another merc.

Unfortunately in 0.45 even Fidel isn't able to recognize that the gun is trapped. And without recognizing, well boom Smile. And he has an higher exp level in this game than in 0.42.

So it's about recognizing the trap, not untrapping. Even tried to scan the gun with the metal detector if that showed it is trapped. Didn't work.

Now we are two who need Mike! Thank you for your post!

I have copied the map of the vers. 0.37 into the maps of vers. 0.45.
That's it for me.

I accept with difficulties such a kindness of four enemies in a little house
without any reason (or only to annoy the gamer) but a trapped item which can
only be untrapped through one merc who comes later in the game. No,
I help myself.
Sorry @Arulcish Lion, you made a good work till this point.
You know that I played your mod many times and enjoyed it...

You need only a little change and we need not the beginning
of a new game...

Is there an issue with the latest zip file? v50? I have downloaded it twice, once from your page Lion and also from Kermi's site. Winzip says there's an error with the file and won't open, while I can open it with WinRar, but then it cannot extract files that are present.

Any chance of a new download from somewhere that works?

Got it up and running, just an early observation: The UI graphics with your roster are still in Russian, I presume there's not an English one yet? Not a biggie.

When recruiting my first team from AIM I attempted to recruit both Hatchet and Spam but they both refused citing bad leadership and morale, but I hadn't even landed in Metavira yet. Is this some sort of bug? Or is it an indirect way that those Mercs did not like the guys I'd recruited before them? I had needle, Fidel, Vinny and Snake I think at the time.

Also is there a limit on your squad size? Can you only have one squad? I never did play the original JA1 so am a little unfamiliar.

Yes, there might be some parts in Russian - it's not a final version yet.

As it was in JA1 not all mercs will want to work with you from the very beginning. You have to fight a bit to make them sure, that you are a good commander. More experienced merc is - more military success you need to hire him.

In JA1 there were 8 mercs and only one active squad on the map.

In this mod you can hire 12 mercs and have more then one squad on the map, but battles are rather continual, so you won't have an ability to have few squads attacking enemies in few different sectors.

Understood, and yep understand it's not a final version, so I thought I'd flag any issues that come up.

While mentioning merc recruitment, I note a number of my mercs have NA on their salary details in the roster window. It seems all the mercs I hired for just a day have this. Does this mean I've some how got those mercs all of the campaign while only paying for a day? Or is the NA indicator incorrect?

It is a bit incorrect. All mercs from A.I.M. hired for one day will take a fee for one day every midnight till the war ends.
