Would it be possible to have 32-bit also?

Unfortunately not because the STI format can either have a 256 color palette (i.e. 8bit) or use the RGB565 format (i.e. 16bit with 5 bits for red, 6 for green and another 5 for blue). Theoretically I could extend the STI format to cover 32bit as well, but that change would also have to be reflected in the game engine.

I don't know if it would be worth it to try enhance STI in that way when you could extend the game's png support instead.

I think you're right there. Although, I must say that I love the formats ability to be used for 8bit (with and without animations) and 16bit. PNG on the other hand can only be a single image and GIF, which can contain multiple images, is restricted by licensing AFAIK and only has ONE animation, not multiple. Also, if you use GIF, all images have the same dimensions - in STI all images can have different dimensions.

The complete interface of the editor is made with STI skinning. In fact, my custom components set, which I use for all apps, now entirely relies on STI skinning. Even the icons used in the editor are retrieved from a STI file and adjusted to match your skin settings - with the usual approach for icons I would have a folder with at least 56 PNG files...

Hey guys,

right now I have a lot of work to do and meanwhile I have to find a new flat because my g/f and I broke up after 5 years and I have to move back to where I came from a year ago. Voor de Nederlanders hier: Ken je iemand die een goedkope kamer of woning in Leeuwarden of vlak bij verhuurt? Stuur mij dan een PM!

Aw well, plenty of time for the beta test. Interested? Send me an email (tox@webcodesign.de) or a PM.

Greetz,

Tox

@Tox is it possible to set the x/y offsets for all frames in one STI at the same time, for example if there are lots of frames and they all have the same size.

A few more requests (from ja2.su)
-gif import/export support (or it was planned for the next extended versions?)
-the ability to add picture to the editor by simply dragging it into the editor window (like it works in photoshop)

Hey Tox, just taken a brief look tonight, loving the instant JA grid feedback, will help a lot when chopping/placing new tiles and dealing with offsets.

One question, is the palette colour chooser available with RGB values? I thought that would be more of a standard requirement as opposed to HSB, for most artists anyway.

I've chosen HSB because it, IMHO, offers a more intuitive control over color. However, adding RGB is no big deal - added it to the list. Are there other color spaces you guys are interested in? Like CMYK, HSP, Lab, ...

btw, this tool might be interesting for you guys, too: http://www.webcodesign.de/ColorTool/Color_Tool_1.0.1.air (startup is rather slow, didn't update the UI components yet, give it some time Wink)

CMYK's more fitting for print, but guess everyone's got their own preferences.

RGB's implemented. If you haven't done so already, please give JA2STI internet access, so it can check for updates upon startup.

And another tool that might come in handy:
STI Converter Alpha 1 (v0.0.2)

This tool allows you to convert JPG/PNG files to single page 8bit STIs via drag'n'drop. Drop the file to be converted on the app. The converter automatically creates the palette and saves the file as STI the same folder. Just take a look at it, should be pretty self-explanatory. If you have questions, feel free to ask.
