I remember having read years ago that you can find some sort of substance in the woods west of Drassen which gives you a certain camouflage when fighting bugs. Is this true? Anyone? Searched the whole bloody forest area, and nothing. Do I :whoknows: have to wait till the bugs appear?

Well, there's some bug-elexier you can buy to avoid bugs "spitting" at you, which makes it far easier to fight them. You can get it from Gabby who you usually find in the second sector West of Alma or South-east of Grumm. You also get some infos 'bout the bugs from Gabby and sell parts to him.

Hope this helps

Let's be honest: Using Gabby's eliexier is pretty much like cheating.

Your right because it makes things very easy, because bugs won't attack that aggressivly and are kinda "blind" and it offers new tactical possibilities. For you're able, only with the elexier however, to engage in close combat what will boost your stats.

But you also have to admit that even with elexier it stil remains a dangerous piece of work.

Wow! I've been playing since '99 and I've never met Gabby! Thanx for the info! It just goes to show that I should read all the posts on this sight.

I found him in a sector south and east of the Grumm mine - I forget the exact location and grid-reference, but it's two sectors north of Orta (so you won't run into the perimeter patrols) and it's east of the Grumm-Meduna road. I hope that's close enough for you to find him. :whoknows:

In G9 Cambria you will find a character called Rat.He appears right after(or at the same time) the queen gives the order to stop feeding the crepitus. In day time.Always in the universal store, located S-W of Keith's store.Do not kill him on sight.(looks like one of Kingpin's assasins).
Friendly:"I don't want nothing from you".Threaten him and then talk friendly,he will give you directions to find Gabby(kind of like the civilians in Drassen give you an proximate location of Skyrider). You can beat him to death afterwards, the locals won't care(it will probably raise your loyalty 2%,plus your strength and/or dexterity).
Most frequent location of Gabby in my games was J11.In addition to buying elixirs, you can sell crepitus parts to him for 5,000 $ per day, duplicating if in need for money.

You can use Madlab's robot to fight bugs .... they dont recognise it as an enemy so wont attack it.
Downside is single rifle shots aren't all that effective but it makes a good scout in caves.

The robot can burstfire if given an appropriate weapon (I usually give it an FA-MAS), but because it runs out of ammo quickly and is a bit of a pain to reload, it's not very good as a primary combatant.

While the bugs won't attack the robot, they do tend to surround it if it attacks them. A good tactic is to hide within throwing distance of the robot and use it to shoot a few bugs. When a crowd of them has gathered around it, fling a mustard gas grenade into the crowd. They tend to just stand there and take the damage.

When you have the elixir, try having 2 mercs (with elixir) spaced away (more than the bugs can cover in a single turn) and make 'em shoot every other turn. In other words:
1st turn:Fox ( Very Happy ) shoots, she moves 2 squares (so the bugs don't catch her), and the bugs crowd where she shot.
2nd turn:Wolf shoots, the bugs try to get at him.
3rd turn: Fox shoots, the bugs try to get her but they can't...
4th turn: etc.,etc.,etc...

But this wastes ammo! Instead of shooting you could try going h2h but this is more dangerous...your choice. Very Happy

Generally by the time you get to fight the bugs you're pretty much drowning in otherwise useless hollowpoint ammo anyway...shouldn't be too much of an issue really Smile

Crepitus bugs aren't that bad, HP ammo blasts them real nice Wink, but the Bug Queen... You'll have to NUKE that witch! (Mustard gas grenades + Frag grenades at her)

The elixir sucks on gold patch. It's only good to prevent Queen bug interrupting you.

"Who invited my mother-in-law?" - Grizzly when see a bug

"Sushi!" - An IMP when see it.

"Never saw something as disgusting since Alien the movie......" - Me,when looking at Queen bug.
