Idea behind scope modes is, that sometimes it is a good idea to use your scope (when the enemy is far away), your reflex sight (if the enemy is somewhat closer, but not exactly pointblank), your iron sights (if you have no reflex sight, or if the enemy is even closer), or even fire from the hip (if you want to do the Tommy gun spread).
Basically, having different kind of scope modes allows for more tactical depth.
I like the idea of the button, but would personally not use it. I never use any of the menu buttons, but instead use the keyboard shortcuts which make for a much more convenient play experience. Main problem with keyboard hotkeys is, that there are already A LOT of them in use and a few of them got changed around to quite inconvenient combinations (like the artificial light during night time battles, for example... ).

Thanks for the info. I just started playing this old classic with 1.13 so I'm just at the beginning of the game and no very good gear
So how should i understand the icon for each scope? Right now my weapons only has the crown symbol (as in ATigersClaws screenshot)
That would be iron sight? How does the fire from hip icon look like?
I believe with a pistol I could change the scope with the "." shortcut when out of combat, but in combat it was a no go. And the pistol had no attachments.
Think I need to play a bit with it to get a hold of it more, but any help would be appreciated

The hip shooting icon looks like an eye. You can only use that mode while the merc is standing. It has nothing to do with in and out of combat mode.
Well, when you put it that way it's obvious ;P
Thanks for the info!
