It's probably about 5 years since I last played JA2. First time playing it too along 1.13 and DC to pop my cherry.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to reorganize my squad in the tacticscreen.

It was fine at first, since I had one squad and didn't need reorganizing then I got the ice cream van and it got annoying. Everytime I bump into an enemy while riding my van it would shuffle my soldier order. Now that I have a second squad up I would really appreciate it if I can someone organize their portrait order.

Edit: While I'm hear I might as well ask for some tips. What would be a good weapon for low marksmanship mercs? I've been using single-shot long rifles since bursting seems terrible even with grips and low caliber arms. My thinking is that they can be safe with range since it's a huge gamble trying to manfight enemies at the front line - Like Ira just missing an 8 round auto fire within 7 or 8 tiles away and getting murdered the next enemy turn. If my understanding of the gain mechanic is also correct they would learn faster this way as sometimes they can fire 2 shots per turn.

Any alternative weaponry ideas?

In tactical screen you can click on one merc portrait and then press CTRL + Left/Right to move them to the left/right. Old exe versions still have some bugs with this feature. Use at least revision 7724 or higher.

If you play with the New Trait System you should keep in mind that all mercs have penalties for weapons they are not proficient with. Try to give the mercs weapons that they have traits for. Ira has no weapon proficiency so first I gave here a shotgun with buckshot. Later she got an Assault Rifle but will mostly use semi-auto. Autofire is very inaccurate for mercs that don't have the Auto Weapons trait.
Also keep in mind that when playing with the New Chance to Hit system you will get a penalty when using scopes below their effective range. Trying to use a 7x scope at 8 tiles range is a bad idea.

PS: When using autofire - aim for the legs. Recoil will pull the gun up anyway. If you are lucky the first shot will hit the legs and the second one will hit the torso.

Good stuff.

I'm playing with new traits and NCTH. I didn't know characters had a penalty when using a weapon outside their expertise. I thought the expertise were just for a bonus.

Shooting low and let the recoil do the work, eh? I never thought of that. I'll try that out with some bursts.

I just need confirmation- Every attempt to shoot an enemy has a chance to give "skill points", right? It's per attempt, not per bullet?

Thanks for your time helping a noobie out.

Another question. I went to Estoni to buy fuel. Suddenly I find that the whole garage is littered with land mines. I didn't put them there. Did they enemy put them there? There was no mineswhen I took it the first time.

I think it's safe to assume that Militia plants mines? To be more specific elite ones? Anyway I can disable this? It's really annoying when my merc discovers the 200th mine trying to buy fuel or trying to get my stuff from the airport..

I have never noticed anyone besides the player planting mines. The ones on the map are pre-placed by the map maker to simulate enemy fortifications.

They were definitely NOT pre-placed. It happened now happened on two sectors to me. The first was Dave's sector, the original Estoni. The second one happened to Arulco Revisited's Estoni Airport sector. As you can imagine I have spent a lot of time going to the Airport sector to pick up Bobby Ray's goods. Add the fact that I had to re-take it too before hand. There were no mines, not a single one. Especially not at the airstrip itself.

Suddenly both maps are littered with mines. The original Estoni sector had about 20 or 25 mines on them. Took quite a while to talk to Dave, lol. My Mercs were getting prompt to talk about mines every step.

Also I am playing with the stable build of Stock Data Overhaul plus Aruclo Revisited if that helps.

P.S. I read the whole SDO thread and I don't remember any mention of mines.
