hello all

yes, the subject says it all.

anyone knows what events trigger the bugs quest? i know that that going to caves below tixa dungeon does. does also only going to tixa itself? and what if dont go to tixa for a long time, does the quest get triggered by time?

maybe add two more things while i am at it:

- tons of guns option just makes more different guns drop, but does not make more guns drop, right?

- this is some strange bug, one of my items in cambria mine ended up on the inaccessible part of the map (up on the mountain). dunno if it was dropped there after militia autoresolved battle or one of my mercs dropped the item via strategic screen inventory. i guess its lost... strategic screen shows it as grey and says 'cannot be picked up from here'

thanks in advance for any input

vilik

- Besides Tixa dungeon? I thinking after having conquered the third city it might happen. However, sometimes - at least in gold 1.12 - I had to enter the Tixa Dungeon to trigger the quest.

- Yes.

- The item cannot be picked up. It might happen in the sector "Grumm Mine" as well.

edit:
Good luck for the finals Smile

Dunno a 100% about this. (+ I'm too lazy to check, sowwy I'm sunday-groggy)

Anywayz, I thought Sci-Fi had to be enabled, for the bugs to be part of the game.
No trigger but definetly worth checking by pressing "V" in map-/or sector-screen.

I've gotten the bug quest before going into Tixa, so that can't be a trigger. Perhaps it is triggered by a set amount of days after Drassen is taken?

The Tixa dungeon isn't the only trigger, but it is one nevertheless.

thanks for replies everyone,

let me add few more thing to that bugs subject.

1) i sure do have sci-fi mode enabled Smile

2) is the quest triggered by going to tixa, by going to tixa dungeon, or BELOW tixa dungeon?

3) is the second case when the quest gets triggered time or number of cities captured?

basicly i want to prolonge the starting of the quest as much as i can (so i can get most of free/cheap mercs and then train them :diabolical: )

oh ya, what about the potion maker, when you find him before the quest has started. doesnt that start it?

vilik

edit: PS im on 1.07

I believe the trigger is in the tixa dungeon not below. In my present game I have four cities captured and no bugs yet. The bugs will come even if you never meet Gabby the potion maker but I don't know if meeting him early triggers anything. As for tons of guns it increases the variety of weapons dropped especially WP guns.

I think the Tixa trigger is actually the bug cave below the Tixa dungeon. I have tried to delay the bug quest by not entering the bug cave after clearing the dungeon (where Shank is). While entering the bug cave will trigger the bug quest right away, by not entering the bug cave, I was able to get 3/4 of the way through Alma before it was triggered (I don't know what eventually triggered it in that case, and I don't know whether meeting Gabby affects it either).

well, i got the creature quest before ever setting foot in tixa. i got it right after liberating alma. i had liberated drassen, chitzena and cambria beforehand, so perhaps it happens after a certain number of towns/mines/sams are captured.

it might even be *getting* the tixa quest that triggers it. i'm more inclined to go with the # of mines owned, though.

ok, i finally got some time to test it myself Smile so the results were...

1) going to tixa itself does not trigger the quest. i was able to get both dynamo and shank, then left tixa and after more than week the quest did not pop up.

2) however, going to BELOW tixa dungeon to the caves does trigger the quest right away.

3) time vs. cities/mines issue: im more inclined that its number of cities (mines?) captured. in this game, i reloaded and did not go to tixa, i have drassen and cambria, and immediatly after liberating alma the bugs pop out. interesting thing is that CapnDanger actually got it after liberating four cities, while that last one was also alma...

thanks again for input

edit: tested Gabby also, hes not trigger. i were able to buy tons of his potions befefore even knowing what they are for.

I alwyas thought it triggered after liberating three cities. But maybe it's three mines and CapnDanger liberated Cambria without the mine since it's not really a part of the city?

In my current game I conquered four mines (Drassen, Chitzena, Cambria, Grumm); however I had to go to Tixa Dungeon and kill the bugs there to trigger the quest.

@vilik
You shouldn't use the potions, it's unfair and deprives the bug-quest from all its fun. You should instead buy empty glasses, though.

Actually, the trigger for the bug quest is liberating the 4th mine according to the strat guide. That also seems to match what just happened in my game. I took my 4th mine and then took the next sector and trained my first squad of militia. Immediatly after that ( day or so after taking the mine) I got he word that the bugs were on the loose. (Lucky for me that it is the mine I just got so I at least didn't lose any income.)

Hey,nice nickname!Actually,great one!
And actually,if you go down into the Tixa dungeon(2 levels down),"the bug quest" is triggered much faster than fourth mine.
Playing that variant and getting the bugs sent on the civilians,I usually strike the remaining towns and mines the same day(night) using whatever means or cash necessary(heli, equipment). It would be unfortunate to loose such a great all town loyalty booster...

Hey there!
In v. 1.03 (expert)I managed to trigger the bug quest with only Balime completely conquered, going down the doungeon in Tixa on day 2 and later
(day 60),after countless victories in defense, and a simultaneous attack on Drassen and Cambria with 2 teams,by talking to Bob,the injured miner from the Cambria hospital and Father Walker from Drassen.Might simply be a number of victories, and at least 2 of the 3 triggers described. But I could be wrong...
PS:The bugs never -ever- attacked Balime in my games.

But balime doesnt have a mine, i thought th bugs only attacked towns with mines and the sectors near the town.

i have some more thoughts,

except for the case of going below tixa dungen, which was already covered...

the second case when you conquer several cities and the quest gets triggered:

it seems to me that it depends on number of conqured city OR city+SAM sectors.

in my current game - i have drassen (3) cambria (5) and central and drassen SAMs.

1) then i liberated alma (whole) and the bugs pop out.

2) i reloaded and liberated chitzena. nothing happened. went on to grumm. right after taking two sectors of grumm the bugs pop out.

so IMO bugs get triggered after you take either 12 city sectors OR 14 city and/or SAM sectors.

what do you think?

Try to conquer only the mines or just enough of the town-s to train militia.Leave a rebel in every town,as a garnison.
I did it once, and had all mines under control, but the bugs did not appear...

When you liberate your 4th mine, you get a cut-scene where Elliot tells her that the people are starting to turn against her. She waks him and starts to walk off and then turns back and tells her to quit feeding the bugs. It is triggered by capturing your 4th mine. As a matter of fact, in my present game, I liberated all of Alma but the mine and then rested up/repaired everything so I could hit the bugs as fast as possible. Sure enough, less than a day after taking the Alma mine, I got the message than Drassen was shutting down.

@The SantaBARBARIAN
Yes,that variant is correct.
But have you tried conquering only the mine sector in each town,no other sector, and winning enough battles in defence or around the town to give you the minimum 20% loyalty in order to train militia with a merc (or two) in 5 different mine sectors?
I'm telling you, it is possible, and not touching the 3 triggers I described earlier delays the appearence of ... bugs. And the logistic problem is not that difficult.
Or do you like finding yourself in a controversed discussion, without enough data or arguments?

I'm not sure how the bug quest actually triggers, but it did happen to me after liberating cities in this order:

Drassen, Chitzena, Cambria, and Alma. In this order, the bugs get triggered in Drassen.

Another way of how the bug quest gets triggered is after conquering Drassen and Chitzena (In that order), and then trying to take Grumm, the bugs get triggered in Grumm.

Also, the bugs attack the mines that you own.

Also, I noticed that the smaller the actual mine is, the larger the nest is. Drassen has two mine sectors, and the bug nest beneath it has six sectors. In Grumm, the mine has five sectors, and the nest is only two sectors.

I hate the bugs... but it is worth taking care of them before killing the queen, as it gives you the benefit of the jelly, which gives you strong Spectra armor.

"Triggers" might not be the greatest word for what happens, yes.
You'll have to reach a certain critical point.
And their appearence seems to be accelerated by:
-entering Tixa dungeon
-talking to Father Walker(after you give him a bottle of strong beverage)
-talking to Bob,the bug-wounded patient
-meeting Rat
-getting acquinted with Gabby
Is this correct?

Entering the Tixa dungeon and/or talking to Bob do seem to accellerate the Sci Fi quest. Don't know about the rest (maybe, but I haven't made that observation).
As for the term triggers it is the exact word the programmers use to describe such events.

Rat is,or rather was,Gabby's partner in the times he worked for the queen, feeding the crepitus and "keeping their population under control".
I always found him in Cambria, the shop immediatly S-V of Keith's junk shop.
Looks and talks like a mixture of Trevor and that mafioso terrorist.
He doesn't want anything from you,IPSOI,...except maybe to get a little practice at punching his face, eventually gaining a strength and/or dexterity point...
Not before he tells you where you'll find Gabby!

Hi, I know this is a old topic, but my question is about the bug-quest.

I started a new game. I haven't been to any city's yet. I have three SAM-sites, been in Orta and went to Tixa. Killed the bugs in the dungeon and the bug-quest is triggerd.

How can the people turn against deidranna if i haven't conquered any city's???

I don't quite understand you're question but the people of Alruco are already on the brink of rebellion even before the game starts. When any viable rebel action takes place there would therefore be a popular uprising if not in blood then at least in spirit.
