Things are very tight at the beginning, but it does level out once you manage to keep hold of a mine or oil rig with some careful choices.

No there's no time dependent game mechanic with TNT. The only thing is if you do recruit him you lose the ability to trade with him.

So, are there any AR and SR silencers in the mod ? i have found only 2 pistol silencers on Day 80 and both of them were drops.

Pistol suppressors and AR suppressors are available as item drop from enemy.
No suppressors from BR.

Vengeance needs the cheats back, the "..no cheats to encourage to play the mod" sounds like dictatorship. Many people have complained for the lack of the cheats that have been in place ever since the vanilla game. The democratic thing to do would be to bring them back and let people decide whether to use them or not. Extra difficulty is not always challenge. I have seen that in other mods in other games. Some of us are old, sick and maybe we don't have all the time in the world or the energy to spend a whole day taking a sector and then defending it from attacks every 2 hours while trying to train militia.

About the primitive arulco and it's lack of equipment, no big deal, Bobby Ray's is the USA and is supposed to sell everything. But this is not the case. obviously. Makes you wonder why. As for the lack of silencers, so much for stealthy night ops. No cold or glaser ammo either. I am guessing that Bobby Ray is going out of business angry

Are there any changes to vision and sighting behavior? I only found the "base sight range" is 14.

Thing is, my mercs get shot in almost every map without seeing anyone. Even with scopes an little movement they are not able to spot the enemy. I see the sound markings sometimes or sometimes immediatly after getting shot there is an enemy visible for the duration of the opponents turn.

If I see the enemy I have a lot of misses. Even with sniper trait and very good equipment. Mostly I have to run onto the enemy to get better hits which makes me getting hit often. While the enemy is even with low equipment shooting precisely.

You need to play more. Silencers are around, they're just not growing from trees. If you are desperate for night ops gear, maybe try and recruit some mercs with that trait and who also have night ops gear in their loadouts ready to use.

I've found equipment gun progression jumps a fair bit in quality from around day 20 and have seen Tony sell glaser ammo too.

As far as I could see there was no question just a statement, which is why there's no answer, especially if it comes across as some sort of order being barked.

Right now I have little time or the patience to discuss cheats or if they should be in or out but I will say there is no plans to change the cheats as they stand at the moment, though they would be considered in the future after more bug hunting and balancing work is done, but that's way off at the current pace. Using the GABBI cheat can often upset the stability of the game and introduce more bugs which is just one reason we have disabled it so we can at least concentrate on issues in a more controlled environment. If this seems like a dictatorship you are more than free to play another mod for now.

I mean the "cheat-statement" came as a question in the camouflage of a statement as so many in this thread.
But I took notice of your arguments and I have understood.
You could have right IMO. They are able to disturb the mod. And for all they are able to disturb the "test".

But one question at the end: How long will this last and can we hope to get after it the "Cheat"?

I didn't mean it to sound like an order barked. It's that i've noticed quite a few complaints about the lack of cheats and figured to add my voice to that. More like stating a fact. I didn't know that the GABBI cheats cause bugs. No prob's, it seems at times there is a flood of things to deal with and the small team we have is often stretched very thinly. The nature of internet discussions at times can also play a factor when communicating or something being misconstrued. I'm still not sure what Fan's German phrase means, possibly playing 'devil's advocate'?

It was discussed and decided very early on in the project to disable cheats for reasons above as well as to encourage proper play-throughs and help not only with bugs but balancing which is always a very tricky process. For me personally, players giving the game a go without cheats would be a sign of respect and appreciation for the hard work that's already been put into the mod rather than just fast-forwarding through everything like a glutton and then moving on to the next. We haven't asked for much more than that for something which has taken a lot of hard hours and effort to put together, but ultimately one we still enjoy doing and continue to do so. In fact I enjoy it more than typing away here right now, so I'll leave it at that and get on with other tasks.

Let's keep this thread back on topic. I think we should post a few more tips up if people are finding it hard I know I've lost track of some item merges and that's from someone who's part of the dev team!

And I could imagine that the majority of people who played and hopefully still playing this mod enjoy the new elements and playing style VR brings in including disabled cheats or "Die Hard" mode option etc. etc.
We understand that we cannot satisfy all players, but that was never our intention (and it is also not possible)! We modified and implemented all these things we liked oneself and we wanted to see in VR. It was a decision inside team and I think only the people who invested much time of their life in this project have the real right to decide that. Of course you don't have to like that and it is your democratic right to say that, but that's normal in life. It's also everyone's own decision to play or not to play this mod. Of course we hope and like to hear that many people like and enjoy VR. That's our only reward for the many time and our motivation for the future.

I am all about respect and i truly appreciate all the hard work and the time being put into it. I love JA2, being playing it since 1999,i play other games too but JA2 has always been there and i am very thankful to all modders that have been working on it. However, i am no glutton, i use the cheats very sparingly, almost exlucively when there is no way to save a merc, not even by loading a save of the previous turn. This is just for the record. No need to answer it.

Did anybody won SALINAS and hold it by training militia to 100 %?

Or would you recommend to avoid SALINAS?

Or one advice?

I had posted that I cannot engage further mercs because of a bug. Therefore I have only a few mercs to defend the 12 (!) sectors.

The trick to training militia in ALL sectors, is to do the training in one of the 5 original (vanilla game ) sectors. Also avoid staying in the sector that you have just liberated if you start getting messages that the people there dislike your mercs. When i liberate a sector, i move the militia from the training sector to the newly liberated sector and i keep on training in my HQ sector. That way Salinas has a ton of militia to defend itself. If you can spare 1-2 mercs and leave them there permanently to keep on training militia after every attack, Salinas will be fine.

Yes, this sector in which you get this messages, is sector G 8.

IMO you are right, if you have a loyalitiy above 30 and more.
You get this loyalitiy only after winning many sectors in the environs (out of vanilla-sectors),
where you cannot train militia. If any of these sectors was regained through the enemy, you get
immediately a loyality beneath 20 and you cannot train militia further. You have to regain the lost sector.
Then the enemy regained another sector and so on. You have to do every time if the called militia from
the neighbour-sectors are not strong enough to defend this sector. This would be after they are dark blue.
This would last a long time.
And your customer becomes impatient!!! Isn't it?

Anyway: Your advice is also in my experience the only way to get it.

In elder versions with GABBI you could be successfull in a shorter time.
Sorry, Hawkeye. This is the reality. Not all duties in new VR are amusing and satisfactory, at least IMO. thumbs up

Salinas does seem to be quite tricky for a number of players with a few avoiding posting militia there. Salinas does have a couple of quests linked to it which also affect loyalty. So completing those should help.

Ambient facilities are also playing a factor. Perhaps it could be seen that Salinas is a sector that really isn't behind your cause unlike the loyal Drassen and to a lesser extent the vanquished Omerta, though I'm not sure if other towns more south become even more hostile. Perhaps these factors need tweaking. There are some other issues with militia placement and how they act in neighbouring sectors that could be looked at. Omerta could be a strong influence in the fact it's practically been flattened by the queen and Salinas townfolk don't want to end up the same way.

Hi guys....

For me Salinas is important strategically. ! A big town full of militia,right in the middle of the country, keep on cutting down some of Deidranna's soldiers, so the northern sectors can get some slack happy. If there are quests there, i'll check the sectors once i have liberated the whole town. I also keep the 2 annoying thieves (Joey and Sandman) in Oronegro permanently. They train militia and occasionally jump to the SAM site to the south to replenish the militia. Next target is Alma, my favorite fights, ever since vanilla happy

My customer stopped sending e-mails after the EXTREMELY IMPORTANT one, lol big grin. Not much of a loss. The truth is that i am trying to advance the second squad (locals) by training them 24/7 but they still can't fight worth a damn and we're at day 120. So i try to keep my first squad (AIM +IMP's) advancing, a sector every few days, so my client cannot trouble my existence any longer. Loyalty goes up a little at a time and that's fine by me. As long as i don't lose sectors and have to retake them, i have no worries in Salinas.

Most important for me in the present game (You remember: I cannot engage mercs from A.I.M. or MERC because of a bug.) is the quest in SALINAS to get the best merc in this game after Ilya and Miguel: Babyface.

Right is the strategically significance of SALINAS in the middle of the country: The reinforcement of the enemy in the case, SALINAS is his real estate.

I write this and just now I have an idea: Sorry guys, this bug is with the intention to make us engage mers as Joey and Sandman or others. Clever!
But not for me! I ever engage them. I love them. I find them on my way. That is the best of VR. thumbs up

It was a bizarre one to record too, In the original it wasn't entirely clear what Babyface's intentions were, though anyone who knows the vanilla quest will be familiar what was going on. Even in it's latest form it's still pretty disturbing!

Hey guys, found any interesting item combinations? So far I've found
- Fertilizer + Gas = fertilizer bomb
I set it up as a trap where the enemy would possibly seek cover. Took out 5 of them in one go.

- Copper wire + Watch = Detonator
Next thing you know, you're swimming in detonators.

Can we get some hints on the others? What about jars? How do you get empty shells filled?

Jars can be used to collect blood or the bug queen's jello, it can be done as many times as you want in one go though. Make sure that everyone has at least 3 jars, over 90% condition. Best treatment for armor, better than compound 18. At least in vanilla and probably 1.13 sci-fi mode. Also i've read about a combination about jars, marbles and a grenade ? Reminds me of the movie Swordfish. Bombs filled with ball bearings.......you can imagine

Empty shells can be filled with 40mm grenades i think, or something along those lines. I think they can be used with the short mortar.

I am pretty sure that most of the classic combinations are still working , same as they used to.

Yeah, it kind of took me by surprise when "it happened". The key was the slimy executive's comment about how good-looking my female ,mercs were,one of them at least. Similar to the Hicks "girl with pretty teeth" thing.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before but consider filling those empty mortar shells with a combination of oil and gas and you can make molotov style mortar bombs.

A new item and merge in Vengeance is the butterfly syringe and bloodbag, which can make a bloodtranfusion bag, these pretty much replace regeneration boosters which should be very rare in Arulco in Vengeance as we found it a little too 'magical.'

What does the string do to a grenade? Set up for traps? If so I'm not using them right lol

EDIT: Also, how do I mix the gas and oil? I have the tank of gas and oil and try combining them and nothing happens.

That's an interesting merge, i'll have to try it. String + can in doorways acts as an alarm system, string + grenade probably an explosive trap, haven't tried it though.
Try adding oil and gas to an empty shell (mortar shell maybe ? i have found 2-3 of them and wasn't sure how to use them).
The transfusion bag is a great merge. I do agree that reneneration boosters seemed more like medieval rpg magic. The rest of the game has always been realistic in every aspect. Fighting, financial, relationships, injuries, bandaging, doctor/patient assignments, everything fits, expect the instant regen. They can save lives but as you say..... "magical" suprised

Thank you. That was our intention/idea behind that :-)
I always thought Regeneration Booster rather belongs to a Sci-Fi game and feels a bit like cheating, but the Transfusion Bag gives it a more realistic background like in real M*A*S*H for example ;)

I should be the one thanking you. JA2 has always been an awesome game but with the work the modders have done in 1.13, takes the game to a whole new level of awesome. Endless replayability value.

About the new merges, i only wish they were a little more often. Items that can merge drop rarely but naybe that was the intention. Either way it's no big deal. I save often during fighting and i make a hard save before every battle. I like to keep my mercs alive "...for the long run" as the game manual says. happy

What do you think about the assistance of the scud in H 14 and I 14?
If you are coming from the north you have to go round the sector to avoid the scud.
Better you make the game without the assistance of the scud?

Any way: The scud is impressive! And it is helpful. If you came to MELA for the first time and in the sector H 14 you will find ca. 40 enemies (playing NOVICE) because they are comming from neighbourhood.

Hello!
Are there good GUI tools for safe editing merks starting gear and merks themselves in this mod? Or at least a nice viewer to grab all data needed for xml-editing?
Do you have somewhere a list with all secret items made by merging special components? It were helpful for players to know what this mod has to play with if you would open a topic sharing such a list! Updated with releases may be.
