Around six months ago, I was working on a project to overhaul a lot of weapon and inventory choices, and bring the setting of the game to 1999, on an Arulco reflecting it's "Caribbean nation propped up mostly by U.S. milsurp aid" roots. I had a fair bit progress underway, when I lost a hard drive, and a lot of the work with it.

I've finally gotten over the demoralizing blow, and I'm attempting to piece together what I can salvage of the old work. But some of the things I know I've lost are things I honestly can't remember how I did in the first place. And there are a few newish features I don't remember having when I started six months back, such a s creature/bandit raids, that I already have ideas for, but I'm not sure how to find.

So the three things at the top of my list:

1. I had made a large list of "taunts" with specific conditions, that was meant to reflect battle chatter more than snide insults and movie quotes. But before I can recreate that, I can't even find where taunts are stored. Though I did find the document explaining the structure of taunts, and a file in my salvage labelled "EnemyTaunts_Attack.xml" which appears to be an unedited backup of the 1.13 defaults. What's the file structure of this system?

2. I fortunately didn't lose the custom art for weapons and items that I (and Smeagol) had made, but I did lose the weapons/items entries. I already knew I was going to have to rebuild them, but for the life of me, I can't remember how to make item transformations work. One part of my plan was to allow rifle stocks to fold/unfold with a transformation button, replacing those attachments with a more immersive system. Another was to allow certain weapons, such as .357's to adapt to .38 ammunition without making them the same ammo caliber. I had also begun work on a plan to replace magazine adapters with different sized magazines which would transform weapons into a higher capacity version (essentially a visual alteration in most cases, but could involve rechambering or switching an MG from belt to box feed.)

3. I had plans to make use of additional merchants, as a primary source of weapons and munitions, relegating Bobby Ray's to more reasonable fare for an internet retailer. I don't remember if I ever knew this or not, but I don't know where those merchants actually show up in the world (if at all with Wildfire Maps?) or how to assign the custom inventories to specific NPCs, ideally with names or faction names to signify who they are.

4. This last thing is a new idea, based on the bandit raid mechanic. I'd like to restyle the bandits as enemy PMC commando raids, essentially representing the Queen's attempts to kill you and the rebellion (and the civilians supporting the rebellion) with deniable assets. It seemed more fun to me to have to periodically deal with the evil counterparts of Kerberus or AIM, instead of weak random bandits. I can't find the data that describes the bandits though. I'd like to change their labels on the map and auto resolve screen with PMC, and give them a uniform look and gear choices, but I'm not sure where their data even is. And as a side note, I'd love to have their random color choices applied to Green Militia. And maybe to stop Regular Militia from even being able to upgrade at all, so Kerberus has more value.

1. Taunts are stored in "Data\TableData\EnemyTaunts". There you can find the general definitions and files for taunts with specific conditions.

2. Folding stocks that can be (un)folded with item transformations are part of current JA2 1.13. There is no need to add these.

3. Additional merchants are placed by script "Data-1.13\Scripts\strategicmap.lua". There are many additional merchants already so you have some examples to work with. Unfortunately I have no idea how these merchants are mapped to the corresponding AdditionalDealer_x_Inventory.xml file because that doesn't seem to be documented.

Oh neat, I did not notice the stocks. When did that happen? Super handy, especially since my concept would've made it necessary to have a folded/unfolded version of the entire weapon.

As for the taunt list, THANK YOU! It's exactly what I remembered, it's just I forgot that the not everything is stored in the JA 1.13 folders and none of these were showing up when I file searched for "taunt." Organizational things like that are always my biggest problem with these projects.

I suppose I should see if Flug can help me with the merchants thing. He designed it, didn't he? I hope he's not too busy. I'd love to just document all the work he's done some day, for everyone's sake.

The stocks were updated in GameDir 2394 and 2396. If you want to know more look here

Extremely useful, thank you! And again, much simpler than what I was going to do. I can use this as a framework to scratch that itch of mine that says I need model specific stocks by following this blueprint!
