Hi all,

I have taken a quick break from voicesets as I was heading for a burnout so decided to do something with tilesets.

For a while now I have been disappointed that I couldn't fortify Chitzena in my AR campaign or Drassen D-13 for the counter-attack in stock v1.13 using Flugente's wonderful additions. So I bashed this little mod together.

This is a simple copy and paste mod that works with stock v1.13 and AR. Very much a WIP but looks ok so far.

What does this do? Mostly edits the Ja2Set.dat.xml with:

<file index="103">spot_1.sti</file>
<file index="104">sandbag.sti</file>
<file index="105">spot_1s.sti</file>
<file index="106">sandbags.sti</file>

This appears to be a free slot in most tilesets. I note there are a few tilesets where I have had to squeeze them in wherever although they should all be in "2 Place Barrels & Other Junk" in the editor.

Edit:
v0.2 Did the Estoni tileset again as it was messing up the A8 AR map. I6 still ok.
v0.3 Fixed Farm 1 tileset which caused CTD.
v0.4 Fixed slot error on the Grumm G2, H2 Tileset

Cracked Sandbags and Concertina for standard v1.13 (with Kitty's explanation of how the tilesets work below). They are now implemented on all maps with the only exception being the maps that use the Generic 1 tileset. A plan showing the location of these Generic 1 tilesets below:

https://zupimages.net/up/20/21/lkd0.png

These Generic 1 tileset maps are mostly wilderness or roads between towns.

So next time the Queen's forces counter attack, you can dig in using Flugente's Fortification Feature and drive them back.

Regarding the "free slot", I wouldn't phrase it like that. The Default-Tileset is Generic 1 (Tileset 0). This Nr 0 contains entries for all 151 slots. If you look into another tileset, you'll see that most of those haven't entries for all slots. Those slots not having an entry, then use the entry from the default tileset (Generic 1, 0).
For example look at tileset 10 (Generic 2 (Dirtroads)). This one has no entries at 103-106. Looking at Generic 1 (0), there are entries for "drum_01" and its shadow filled in at 103-106 (it's there two times). When you look at maps that use Tileset 10, you sure will see some that use content from drum_01.
In Map-Editor, when doing a mouse-over on the graphics, at the top of the map-editor you'll see something like "fom Default Tileset Generic 1" when this is the case.

So, those slots ain't empty, they origin from default tileset unless the tileset in use has changed this.
And if you replace both versions of drum_01 in a tileset this also means, you won't see content of drum_01 when using this tileset on map. Which probably will mess a few maps, most tilesets are used for more then one map in standard 1.13 and also in AR. Replacing one drum_01 is fine, but then you also have to check the maps on wether those used 103/105 or 104/106 version of drum_01. This can differ from map to map, based on how the maps originally where created. Use one of the drum_01 for sandbags and look for another place to fill in concertina.

Because you can replace stuff with sandbags also in other places. Like "trees" or "rocks" and even "roofs". When you e.g. replace the "roofvents" in roofs with sandbags, you'll get sandbags on the roof (shadows are tricky then and you may have to create a bit of roof). You have to experiement a little, not all places can be used (some don't allow more then a certain amount of pictures used in sti). Whatever you replace, you should check the effect on all maps using the changed tileset. Having a save backup-copy of the maps, tilesets, ja2set.dat and ja2set.dat.xml is advised.

@ Kitty

I did notice something was happening is some maps which required some deviation from 103 - 106 slots. However, rather than being an expansion to v1.13 my work has now grown into its own mod which I don't feel is that useful to anyone else.

I'll think I need to start from scratch. Instead of trying to do a full tileset expansion, I may do a tileset at a time instead to see what works (or doesn't) and make sure it is fit for standard v1.13 maps.

Edit: I have checked what I have done so far and I have all of vanilla A-row working (apart from A13 which uses Generic 1) & B1. Gonna keep chipping at it. I think the barrels will become more of an issue on the urban maps but I'll play around with them and get it working with standard v1.13 maps.

Since I'm refered to for the description, I'd like to add a little.

Might be phrased unclear above (by me), but it is of course also possible to change Tileset 0 (Generic 1, default Tileset).

Due to the nature of being the default Tileset, changes can effect other Tilesets and therefore more maps.

If this is taken in account, it should be no problem to change Tileset 0 for fortifications as well.

Depending on how it's approached, using Tilest 0 can even be benificial for this purpose. If changing, as an example, drum_01 in Tileset 0, this will effect any other Tilests that take drum_01 from the default tileset - and therefore will effect all maps with those tilesets at once. So, it's more work to check the maps, but less work for changing Tilesets.

In short, if anybody wants to change Tileset 0, it can be done as well.

Vritran, thank you so much for this! I just downloaded the latest build (r8926_g2580) only to find out that fortifications - sadly! - are still not possible in most places. And - your - mod - WORKS!

I don't know if you realise fully what you just did here:
you have actually fixed fortifications, after almost 10 years we already have this feature in 1.13!!!
Thank you! Buddies
