If you attack at night, you won't need long range weapons. However, you should have 1 or 2 mercs with nightops skill for night attacks.
The roof sniper at the SAM site can still be a bit tricky to approach at night (hint: wire cutters may be useful). He may injure someone, but you shouldn't have any casualties if you are careful (don't hesitate to retreat if things go wrong) and provide backup for your point man.

Well, I hired Len and was able to take the Sam site at night. I was suprised to have Len climb up on the roof and there was no sniper! He was hiding among the Sam sites. Almost lost my main character but I got him. Sadly, I didn't get his gun. Oh well, I scored a bunch of submachineguns from that battle. I think it's time to take out another mine.
Thanks. I assume you're not playing with the drop all items feature? Otherwise you would already have numerous AK-102s and 104s, a FAMAS, a G41A2, a G3A3, an M24 and a Scout. Ah, playing at expert level rocks
EDIT: Ah, wait, since you just got the game, I assume that you're playing it without the 1.13 mod? If you're not, then damnit, get it ASAP. It adds so many new tactical elements, not to mention packs a whooping 100 new weapons! (Trust me, if you're thinking wehter that specific weapon is in there, it is.)
