Just ordered JA2 online, and will get it soon (I hope) I have only played JA and JA2 UB, but never JA2. Should I download any patches, or upgrades before I begin?? I guess I shouldn't start with downloading the 1.13 patch... It would be great to hear what the oldtimers of the game think... As you have been through this before... :whoknows:

That crap is something that SF has put in the 1.12 game.
Personally, I don't imagine the devs didn't think of that before(same for soldiers climbing on roofs),
it is my opinion that they just restrained from doing it.(probably better understanding of the game's engine limitations or wish to do something different at all costs from 1.12 makers)
It is crap, because the light stick always hits the mercs(-1);
if it was only much more imprecise(lighten the zone, allright-not hit me all the time) it would have been a great feature.
A much less available item, placed in controlled situation, could make things better,IMO.
Best tactic to avoid it is to "hit first", be the first who throws the light source, light a zone with some 3 of them
-but,of course, they don't throw crap anymore-they just behave like flies, attracted to light, shot to pieces with no glory.

PROGRAM BUGS
NOTE: These bugs appear in version 1.03 US. I hope the patch will have most of
these fixed. Well, maybe not all of them...
1. In the Extreme Fighting Competition in San Mona, while in the ring, your
opponent will sometimes start shooting at you in the middle of the fight. I
believe this was not intentional, but there is not much to be done about it.
You can either knock the boxer out the normal way (taking some serious damage)
or reload a game and try your luck again. If you use any weapon, you will
lose the bet and everybody will turn on you.
There is also another bug. Incredibly, it' even worse than the previous
one! It can happen that after giving your bet to Darren the fight will not
start at all. If you leave the ring, your cash is lost. When you talk to
Darren he acts as nothing had happened. Losing $5K this way is extremely
annoying I suspect it has to do with killing the opponents in an earlier
fight, instead of just knocking them out. This happened to me, and boy, was I
pissed off not seeing these 15 grand every second night!
2. In few non-town sectors items will reappear once more some time after
taking them. The respawning stuff seems to be random. This also happens in the
mines: after collecting the nuggets new ones will appear in few days, but only
once I don't know if this was meant to be.
3. After taking the items from a mine the town's loyalty goes down by 1% This
is not so relevant, but I see no reason why it should happen.
4. When you don't meet Carmen on the next day in Drassen after delivering a
bounty's head to him, he will pay you for this same head multiple times -
whenever you find him. Nice compensation for the screwed EFC
5. If the chopper gets hit for the third time, the game will crash and kick
you out to Windoze(tm) It seems that there is a voice file missing. In order
not to encounter this bug, don't fly over unfriendly sectors, and if you
really have to, make sure there is only one en route (Skyrider will usually
take the same way back home!)
6. Sometimes the mercs will move in a funny way, sideways and backwards, as
with the "ALT" pressed. To remedy the problem, depress this key and quickly
double-click around them. After some attempts they will walk normally.
7. On some occasions you may end up with duplicated items while picking up
stuff from the ground. This happens when the merc's backpack is full and one
hand slot remains empty, while trying to pick up more than one item. I'm
not trying to suggest anything here, but... (wink-wink )

Yes, things can be duped that way. Things can also be teleported between mercs anywhere in Arulco(pre 1.12 versions).
Also, Kingpin's mobsters will respawn every night on midnight in San Mona. The Hicks too, every single night.
If one wants to cheat, no need to tinker with the dupe/teleport bug. Just use Jaedit on older versions, or even better, Jape for later ones (like 1.12) and give your mercs anything you want. Ruins the game tho, since also stats can be edited too.
And, whats wrong with that damn FN P-90? one must be VERY lucky to find it in the game. It is not present in every game. That sucks. you play for like 20 hours, and discover no P-90 in your current game. Pisses me off.
And the Sniper rifles? Before 1.12 the Dragunov is almost useless. Too many AP to fire, too little damage. In RL i was lucky to have the opportunity to fire a former Yugoslav sniper rifle very similar to the Dragunov, only chambered for 7.9 mm ammo. I can tell you this: where it hits, grass doesn't grow anymore. Thank God, in 1.12 the SVD is much better than before. Oh, i have SEEN also the huge sound supressor for that 7.9 sniper. Its huge and it rather unbalances the whole gun, already clumsy at it is, but it exists. So, the SVD should have one. Colt Commando too. Those are the only compromises i make with the editor: silencers for SVD and Commando.
Rant over lol.

Relax, there's a very easy way to make it appear in every game, in normal JA2-without making so much fuss or unbalancing things :
a minuscule patch with a map, with that item placed,100% exist chance.Meaning you'll always find it there,
I have chosen G6,(the crossroad),could mail it to somebody interested; it's there all the time in the "Reconquista" mod.
Or place it to Conrad, it would make that 5500-3300 per day price look more acceptable.
Can't believe nobody considered this worth doing, or thought of this before.
Of course, there's another, even easier thing to do if you want it so bad: use SLFexplore to extract the m9_a.dat(map) from data/maps.slf.Rename it to m9.dat.Make a folder called "maps" in your data folder and place the renamed map in it.Voila, you (might) have it in every game, in M9(P90 could still not appear on occasions)

@ AZAZEL:
Don't get me wrong, I can easily, via the Editor, put any item/weapon in any of my save game files etc. My gripe is about the devs and their reluctantliness (sp) to put the P-90 in the game. In all my games, I start normally in Omerta with pistols etc (except for the 8000+ game where I give them Mini 14's and 2 clips of ammo each). Two liberated sectors later, they all are toting G3's, FAL's and some C7-s if I am lucky. Then, once Iliberate the 'weapon cache' sector, I just import 2x P90's and 4 ammo clips.
That way my conscience doesn't bother me (too much).

P.S.
After all tese years of JA2, something new happened last night in Cambria: Hamous was perched on one of those flat roofs nailing 'black' enemy soldiers around. At one point, one redshirt exited the very same building hamous was on, and, since hamous was close to the roof edge lying prone, the redshirt waltzed in and slashed Hamous with the machete for 18 damage. From below. Lol. Next turn, Hamous takes steady aim, and blows the redshirt head off clean. Epic.Dragunow rocks now

There is no M82A2 in standard JA2.
The P90 is more useful in the normal game because unlike UB by the time you get it you're not enguaged in tunnel fighting for the rest of the game. Fit it with a silencer and laser sight and it is the most devestating night fighting weapon in the game due to its high killing power and ability to mount a suppressor. The only real problems are its restricted range (not really a problem at night) and its rare ammuntition.
