I am still playing on v.107 1.112.
I've been playing JA2 since the demo came out.
I have several questions.

How do I get JA2_Beta_0.95_DE to run?
That along with the JA2_BETA tells me that I'm missing "MSS32.DLL_AIL_set_3D_sample_float_distances@20".

How do I get JA2SME to work? It either will not read the sample map that comes with it, or I try to mess with a default map but, when I try to save, the program tells me wrong exe. version.

Is their any modded maps that I can add to my game? I have tried several but they cause ctd when my mercs enter the new/replacement map zone.

How do I get JA2_Beta_0.95_DE to run?

1. Please download the "JA2_Beta_0.95_DE" file again and extract the content into a temporary test folder.

2. Copy the "JA2 Beta 0.95 DE" .exe and the "mss32.dll" file into the main folder of your game install.

3. Copy the "GERMAN" .slf file into the \Data directory of your game install.

4. Start the game with the "JA2 Beta 0.95 DE" .exe (I hope it works now!)

That's weird! Yes, there are many maps for the vanilla game.

In my short test the "Strategic Map Editor" worked with the "JA2 Beta 0.95 DE" .exe? Other versions are also supported:

Now when I try to save a map from the editor it gives me a runtime error.
Any ideas??

I have the map editor(beta version) working.
Thank you!!!

I am still unable to open my exe. with the JA2SME.(ver 1.2b).
"Unknown version of JA2 exe. Cannot load data."<<- This is the message that I get.

My game is upgraded to 1.07;1.12 from the non-Gold version.
I can open the exe. for the beta map editor with it but, this does not effect my game.

Help??

JA2SME (which happens to be one of my fave tools) will open a 1.07 exe, it won't open a 1.12 exe. There is a workaround. Make an exact copy of your game (maps; prof.dat etc) in a clean 1.07. Then use JA2SME on that. Make save games without setting foot in Alrulco. Copy the save games into 1.12 version. Click on the save game and it will automatically update to 1.12 including all you SME alterations. Not so seemples but hey it works.

Should have added that what it accepts the most is from the additional settings tab (map.bin to 1.07); what it accepts from the main exe when porting from 1.07 to 1.12 is unknown. Certainly strategic info (e.g. if you set them to retake Omerta they will still do that) gets through, but weapon mods etc don't; and certain maps will revert to original troop levels if you new stuff is too high or too low (not that you'd want to unless you were trying to make an admin only game for a solo knife fest)

I have been using a 1.00.1 exe. with the JA2sme and I also have the beta map editor working.
I will try your method so that I may have a later version exe., because that I'm afraid of losing any improvements that 1.12 incorperates( better AI, etc.).

Thank you again for your time for JA2 has always been one of my favourite games of all time(Been playin since the demo(15?yrs)).

Actually, I had JA2sme working for a day......
Now it seems to have no effect.
Basic settings saved to exe.
Advanced settings saved to Map.bin....
Any idea? It did work for a bit...

Needs must start new game, SME has no effect on game in progress. Likewise with adding new maps; you must start new game or they can cause CTD.

I found my problem, I was starting games at medium difficulty instead of expert.
Now I am having the time of my life!!!( JA2sme and beta map editor working!!!)!!! Wohooo!

Now, how to place Bloddcats and insects??
Has anybody replaced any of these with something else yet?
Has anybody introduced new body-types(besides bigmale,normmale,and regfemme)?
Any scripts to switch bodytypes? I really would like to see Fox in a mini-skirt!
I have not went to 1.13 yet because of my slow dial-up and I'm not sure which ver. to go with.
I have read 80% of this site recently, any other good places to seek info?

the scorpion excanged big male (I think it was RR)

there are no merc animations for "miniskirt","maxiskirt", "Warmsteel" (=fatmale")and the kids.

check the thraed "Logical Bodytypes"

I searched and read all of "Logical Bodytypes" and more.
All that I have seen is the regular merc replaced with one that has "sleeves".....
I also read about some new animations from 1.13, did these get done?

Is the problem in the coding of additional body types? I mean to allow the game engine to accept more than 3.

There is plenty of sprites that may be converted and imported to JA2.

Tod, I'd suggest that you post those questions in the logical bodytypes thread itself. I bet Bio will tell you anything you want to know. I'd take a stab at answering, but Bio would know better.

i'm sure if you do that there are some coders to jump at it - afaik we can't use more boytypes atm, but the moment you provide a little fat female fighter (meltdown) i'm sure someone makes it possible

Sounds Good Tod, glad it now works. I have done changes to anims twice; first time: crepitus and bloodcats to two different types of robot (one lot from UC with WG mended sound files and missing anims; one lot from hidden spare parts within anims). This one can be found with my UB mod MFM Tracona. Second time bloodcats to bare chested machete berserkers and crepitus to big male ethnic cleansers with flame throwers (again changes to sounds and struct data etc). This one is still being tested and not fit for release yet.

Was this accomplished by switching the STI's?

Has anyone explored importing and converting graphics/sprites from other games?
I know that this was done alot for modding the "Red Alert" series of games. Modders would take alot of stuff from one of the "Civilisation" games and convert the sprites to the format that RedAlert could read, something like 8 direction frames with various amounts of movement frames, same for attacking and dying frames,ect,ect...

Not quite. A lot of the anims are hard coded so cat walk say is a certain number whereas med merc walk is a different number of frames; unfortunately you can't just edit up or down to the required number but have to replace each frame on the original one at a time... very very boring. Maybe there's a better tool now but I'm done for anims works koz it's a PITA! Bare chestedness was just a CAMO region trick.
